A 3.5 in a truck sucks and is a step backwards, just ask Honda. But you don't need power to cruise the mall.....

I think everyone needs to understand that any manufacturer for any consumer goods will have issues. The point I am making is, look at the big picture. Overall, how is the warranty/CS rated compared to others. How about reliability? No matter how you look at it, Toyota almost always comes out on top or very close to it. I'm not looking at anecdotal viewpoints.

not true in the least. it's the fact that Toyotas do last so long that they sell so many cars and their resale is what it is. but it doesn't keep people from making stuff up...

Is not Ford one of the Big Three? They did not take money from the government.

It's factually wrong to put all the blame for the demise of the U.S. auto industry on the unions. Management led the way for labors dissatisfaction and desire to have some of the profits. They spent corporate profits on obscene salaries, bonuses and perks for managemt. Ford had separate restroom facilities for production management and line workers. Like whites only, but management only! Ford insisted that production quotas be met even if they parts didn't pass quality standards because the equipment they were produced on was substandard or improperly installed. Take some time and better educate yourself about the industry. You might not be so quick to point fingers.

But seriously, what does its displacement have to do with anything?

You think there might be a reason for that? There are always a few naysayers on any forum, but in this case, I think the majority opinion is that this "redesign" is weak - from styling to powertrain.

I, for one, would be the first to cheer if they had done a better job.

Sorry, gotta throw the BS flag and disagree with you on that one. 10 yard penalty, loss of down.

It's more of a balancing act. You want a product that will be reliable within the operating lifespan of the technology supporting it. All these continual improvements change the size of that window. Adding smarter and smarter electrical doohickeys shortens the refresh rate. After too long, it no longer becomes cost effective for a manufacturer to support outdated technology. There is also market demand for "the latest and greatest," driven by industry competition to outdo each other and gain/maintain market dominance.

Toyota dominates this particular market. Simple economics (and historical precedent) has proven that they don't have to make big changes in order to maintain this dominance. Rant and rave all you want, but buyer habits drive manufacturer reaction. If you replace your car every 5 years, they'll make cars that are reliable that long.

Me, I buy Toyotas because I keep cars for at least a decade. They may not have the latest and greatest gadgets, but they last for a long, long time.

I know, they tought all they have to do is make a Truck that is like minivan, weak engine, but Moonroof, leather seats, plenty of cup holders, Bluetooth, nav etc. Than they realized man wearing mom jeans will not buy one if real guys don't buy one either.
So idea of Truck like minivan had died in last year sold 13 000 trucks.
You would think Toyota would take a lesson there. Hondas are most reliable cars and that had not helped sell pussy wagon at all.

I think that "redesign" can be sum up in two words
    Epic Fail.

actually for the most part.. people seem to be happy. and it really doesn't matter as design changes always grow on people so some that don't like it will.

and regarding them doing a 'better job' - you'll need to be specific because others think they did a better job than they had to. it's all very subjective... so vague comments like that don't help.

I'm just assuming that Toyota is not going all out on the engine but we'll see if I'm right. The IS sport has 306hp @6400rpm 277 torque @4800 that would be an up grade but still less low end power.... The Colorado 305hp @6800rpm 269 torque @ 4000 not bad ....

But the sienna, highlander, pilot, odyssey, ridgeline, mdx, RX all have 3.5 and all suck at towing.... ie low end torque.... and all have 270hp or more... I have to test the Colorado and see how it goes....

How many times will you be at 6000 rpm or more???? you won't, you will be at 3000-4000 rpm and the 4.0 is better in that range... A new 4.0 would kick a** and get good mpg.....

Agreed that most seem happy. There are a few who assert their voices repeatedly saying the same things, so it may seem like there are more who don't like it.

if they made it too different, people would bitch about it not looking like a tacoma anymore. make it too similar, people bitch about it being the same as the last one. the conclusion - people love to bitch

I'm a regular on the mustang forums. The amount of complaints I've read out weighs what happens on TW. It's amazing how much issues a 3 month old mustang has from just one owner. The issues just keep piling on.

While I can understand your disappointment, I disagree with your view. While it may look somewhat similar, it is not the same truck. Personally, I like the looks, some don't, but that is ok. The looks did not change dramatically, but there is definitely a difference in the looks department. Toyota is claiming better suspension as well and the interior is changed too, not to mention some new tech. Most notably, a new engine. This is the biggest selling point for me. For all I care, they could have not changed to looks at all as long as the engine is changed.

Now, the 4.0 V6 is a great engine, but it is under powered compared to other mid size trucks that are coming out. The new 3.5L should bring at the very least a 20% increase in power and hopefully 10% more torque. Not to mention, better fuel economy. After 10 years, it is high time for the 4.0 to retire and be replaced by a more capable, more efficient engine.

I am excited for the new truck and can't wait to test drive one. If it is everything I hope for, I'll definitely trade my 2011 for it, just for the sake of an updated look, more power, and better efficiency.

    Holy Hi Lux,

I did not expect that much response so quickly.

Yes, the Ford F-150 is a full size. But I like it and the improvements Ford has made. I wanted a new Taco Pro, but they are no where to be found around here and if you do find one it is prohibitively expensive.

But even if I do get an F-150 I will keep my Taco. But the keyword is 'IF'.

    Spock Out!
