I had a 2010 DCSB TRD that I purchased brand new. After about two years the fuel door started to bind... the forward facing edge of the door would rub against the body behind the hinge and slowly got worse. I got the dealer to fix it before the factory warranty went out. A year leter it started to do the same thing. I recently got a 2013 and the fuel door is doing the same thing. Unfortunately, it is past the 30,000 factory warranty.

Do all Tacomas have this issue? Is it just Tacos in cold climates? Is it just me? Anyone else have the issue and what did you do about it?

The fuel door binds on my 2013 TRD. After seeing some rusty hinge pics posted on here, I sprayed the hinge and the entire inside of the door with fluid film. It has opened as smooth as butter ever since and the hinge doesn't flex anymore.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Fluid film is great, or any other lubricant.
This is not Tacoma only issue.
This year I actually had to replace Fuel Door hinge with new Door and hinge because old one broke off. Cost me $200 in Toyota body shop. For new part plus color matching painting.

You can get it on Amazon but any rust preventative lubricant should work, just do a search. I buy FF by the case and spray it on my frame as an undercoating as well. They also sell it at John Deer suppliers and a Grainger store near me.

Been there, done that fellas. My 2006 DC/SB did that and broke off. It was a combination of rust on the hinge and I think that I caught the door with the gas hose and bent it out of alignment a little.

The Toyota Platinum warranty does not cover this. The only thing that Toyota covers is the "fuel door spring" which is that little black piece of spring steel. You will need to buy a new door as well as the rivets to remount it. The dealer will paint it for you, out the door expect to pay about $80-$100 for the job. At least in 2006 numbers that is.

The moral of the story.... Lube your fuel doors every winter!

Never heard of this issue before, but I will definitely keep the remedy in mind. I typically have the opposite problem: mine pops open on its own after some spirited off-road driving.

Thanks guys. Lubed with WD-40 and it quit rubbing. I can actually see a gap between the edge of the door and the wall behind it when I open it now.

My 08 rubs as well. I lubed it up and it still does it. I can see rust on the hinges. Lately I've just been opening the door just enough to get the filler Bose hose in the filler. Pain in the ass. Cheap product. My 97 had no issues like this.

I have also had this start to happen... :( 2013 DCSB and I just rolled 38k........I will try the lube trick, and if it doesn't rub anymore, I will just use some touch-up paint, as its not visible when the door is closed. Hopefully I caught this soon enough to prevent body cancer(I live in WI)!!

My 2013 DCSB lived in WI until December. It rubbed enough to remove a small patch (slightly smaller than the size of a dime) of the clear coat. I can still see the base coat and it certainly isn't down to the primer. I lubed with WD40 and later with white lithium grease. It doesn't rub anymore. Not sure why it doesn't rub anymore, perhaps between the WD40 and Lithium it flushed something out of the hinge that was causing the rub? No matter, it worked, and I'm happy.

Best thing you guys can do is take it in for an application of "Corrosion Free" rust prevention... that shit works to prevent rust and it lubricates everything (and I do mean everything) on your truck...

Best done when new, but anytime is good...
