    Hey guys,

I just put a deposit on a brand new Tacoma....should be here in 6 weeks. This is a lot of firsts for me - First new car, first japanese make, first car vehicle newer than 1998 lol. My background is in volvos (I have a rare wagon and an EXTREMELY rare wagon) but I'm excited to learn Toyota! My truck is a 2015 Extended cab, 4.0L V6, Manual. Barcelona Red, graphite interior. Forget which package but it's the one with the black wheels.

Anyway, I can't ever leave anything stock, so of course I'm already planning on modding it. I do have two quick questions though - I don't have the tow package but don't plan on towing that much. Can I get away with just adding the receiver, or do these trucks really need the oil cooler when towing? Second question - I really really realy like the leather wrapped steering wheel. How much of a b!tch is it to add later?

    Thanks!

Welcome to tacomaworld. The towing should be ok if its not too heavy or too often, but you might look into the trailer wiring. The steering wheel could be swapped from a tacoma limited or a 4runner if i remember right. There have been guys who have done it and I think there is a write up some where. Good luck.

Ps. What volvo wagons, i once owned a 1973 p1800es in that blue green metalic. Loved that car.

As far as towing goes, you should be ok with out the oil cooler as long as your not pulling heavier loads for long distances. Its really going to come down to how much your going to pull and how far your going, along with the terrain you will be covering during your tow. I do believe the info packet/handbook says a Tacoma without the towing package is capable of towing up to 3500lbs. That sounds like a pretty accurate figure to go by, but in any manner the lighter the better. You should be good to just add a receiver and hook up if your load is less then the manuals recommended.

    Welcome to the family btw!

Thanks guys! I ride motocross, so the only time I'll be towing would be if more than 2 of us are riding and I need to haul some bikes.

As far as the wagons - I have a 1996 850R wagon and a 1995 T5R yellow wagon. The yellow is one of 35 in the states, and one of 150 made worldwide.

Those are pretty sweet, my brother drove a 2004 v70r untill last year. It was so nice, but he hated it, cause it was black and manual, and because he is stupid..... traded it in on a wrangler.

    Yeah.
Occasional towing without the tow package should be just fine. I towed a car on a car carrier 1000 miles twice with no issues, and it was right at the max (without tow package). eTrailer should have what you need as far as wiring and receiver.

As far as a steering wheel, discounted Toyota parts price looks to be $566.25 for the leather one, $246.10 for non-leather. Wow.

Ugh. These cars nickle and dime you though. I would LOVE an 06 or 07 6MT VR. My brother has a 2005 S60R and a 2006 V70R, both manual.

    Holy shit....that's pricey.

That's what people keep telling me haha. I'm still stuck on "Toyota." That being said, everything I've read about these trucks has been extremely positive. My current moto rig is a 1989 Ford E350 Ambulance, with the 7.3L IDI Diesel. I'll throw up pics of the volvos and my rig later tonight, when I'm on wifi.

Make sure you power wash under the truck often to remove salt and such because like you I just bought a 2015, and they still have the rotting frame issue.

    Lol

You should maintain your undercarriage on any vehicle especially in areas near the coasts or that use road salt

You are correct on that OZ-T but on this it is MANDATORY. Since Winter started once a week I go to the powerwash and spray under there for like 10 minutes

It's covered but you will be without your truck for a good 3 to 4 months.

    Hang on

That current corrosion warranty extension only covers 2005-2008 Tacomas , and only those in northern US states and in Canada

Ah correct I was speaking in future sense I guess. That if they are using the same rotting frames another recall will come out and it will be covered. Sorry about that.

There is no tranny cooler with a manual transmission. Also in my opinion you should tell them to put the tow package on the truck now because it is not just about total weight towed but tongue weight. It should not too late. As for leather rap I suggest that you do it from factory. Correct the order now and you will not be disappointed. ;)

I said oil cooler, not tranny cooler.

The only differences I can find between a tow package and no tow package is the oil cooler, tranny cooler for autotragics, larger alternator, tow hitch and wiring. So what am I missing? Why would I not be able to tow as much if I add the hitch later?

And you're right.... I'm thinking I'm going to ask them to add the steering wheel.
