I told them not to bother doing anything and just put the frame one. he said unfortunately he cannot let the truck out until the shocks are replaced due to one blowing up

They fucked up the shock they should fix it. Shocks do not just "blow up" they did something to cause it. Go visit the service manager.

id go down there and ask to see the shock and find out how it "exploded"

if its something they did then they pay for it

if its not find a set of take offs on here or CL and drop them off. no labor needed and you control the parts.

O.P. - Just take your truck to a new dealership and explain to them everything you have told us. I'm sure they will agree to not double dip on labor charges for the frame replacement business. Demand that you are allowed to drive your truck to the other dealer or that they pay to have it towed there.

Not worth fighting with a place who is trying to screw you like that, just blow them off and tell them they lost the opportunity to do your frame replacement because of the double dipping on labor.

As a Toyota technician, I'm embarrassed to hear that. I'd contact Toyota directly and share this with them.

Yep, take it to a different dealer. Then right up everything and post it here. As well as their FB page. Nothing gets car forums more worked up then dealerships trying to screw over customers.

I told you in that other guys thread, that there are some nightmares out there with the frame replacements. Good luck to you all. I won't have my 2015 long enough to worry about it.

As a Toyota tech, I've never done a frame replacement. However if I did, I would leave things intact as much as possible. When removing the rack and swapping it to a new frame, I'd pop the outer tie rods out of the knuckle and leave them attached to the inner. I'd take the power steering pump off the engine and leave the lines connected. I talked with fellow techs, including a guy who has done over a dozen frames. He said he personally would like an extra half hour of labor to install a new rack.

I'm not taking a stance on the topic, but some shops see it as "hey Toyota is picking up the tab on a new frame and labor and customers don't pay a dime so why should they get other work done for free?" It's kind of a gray area.

During the sequoia frame recall, guys would upsell timing belts and then knock 1.5 in labor off since the engine was out of the bay.

Seems like it comes down to the dealership, service writer, and technician.

    1) Thanks for your concern.

    2) Public free speech forum. Not downing any posters, or swearing at anyone.

    3) And no I don't have the rotting issues yet, but there is no info that the frames were switched anywhere to no rotting frames.

    4) And maybe there are a lot of people with 2009+ Tacoma's that are not aware their beloved trucks will soon be in the Stealership Graveyard waiting for a new frame. And WILL be without their trucks for months and months on end.

    5) And always remember knowledge is power. You don't like what I post move on and roll your eyes to yourself. Oh and " Have a Nice Day."

I told the dealership that I ordered the new shocks, they asked when they would arrive I said by Thurs or Friday. They told me "the truck will probably be completed by then"

    I really can't win

On one hand I know they need that extra service bay for other trucks, but on the other I want to say my truck has been there 3 months, whats another 3 days?

Thats ok with me. I'm not asking for them to the rack for free.

can you explain how much time it would take for the shocks?

Months and months? Jeez. We let our customers take their own vehicle home while we wait for the new frame to arrive provided theirs is still safe to drive. Then we only have their vehicle for maybe 4 days. A week tops.

Damn if it is costing btwn 11-14K to get this fix Toyota should just give you the $. Most people I see have 06-09 with frame rust (truck already been used a lot).

    Put that $ into a prius :)

yes, but remember just changing out the fronts involves breaking them down to change the springs and tops.
