Bought my first Toyota in 1981. Seen it on the lot, bran new, bought it. Man I loved that truck. I still regret selling it. Looked at a new one in 86. New. It wasn't the same! Not as good! Torsion bars??? Independent front suspension?? Absolutely SUCTED!!! I bought it. Same in 89, 2001 and the 13. I remember saying with the new one, man this sucker's big. Sucks!!! I bought it. I've really enjoyed every one. I always seemed to feel Toyota built this truck for me.
Now, the 16??? To big a snooter! Big nose! Won't need a leveling kit with THAT hood!!! A 3.5???? I think this is the first time Toyota's truck motor went down in cubic inches??? SUCKS!!! But when it comes time for a new one,,, it'll be a Toyota. By now,,, its in my blood.:)

I'm confused as to what would have to be done in order for it to be considered a "new" Tacoma.

It has a new engine, new transmission, revised frame, different suspension tuning, new styling, new interior, more options and more advanced 4WD systems. For all intents and purposes, it sounds like a new truck to me.

Toyota will lose market share no doubt. New competition from GM (and they are offering a diesel), new Frontier coming (supposedly with a diesel as well) and even Honda is making a "normal looking" pickup truck. Toyota will still lead sales, but I think their share will decrease. For the first time I am considering something other than a Tacoma. I waited for years for this redesign and I too am a little let down.

I think you're flip flopping too much man. Wait til the actual specs come out and then decide.

IMO the Tacoma looks good as is, the new one looks about the same. It's what's underneath those body panels that matters. New frame, new engine, etc. Until I've driven it, I can't comment on if I like those or not. As far as looks, it looks good and the interior looks to be 100% better then the current interior (which isn't bad..just old).

Lord Helmet is right. Give it some time,,, and let it digest. Is it what I wanted, or thought it would be??? No. But, is it a nice truck, I think so.

The Toyota of the 80's and 90's is dead. I don't know why it causes people so much anxiety to admit or even contemplate this. With the advances in technology, global economics, competition etc it would be extremely unprofitable for them to over-engineer cars that last 20+ years with only routine maintenance like they did back them.

I think there is really only so much Toyota can do with this midsize redesign without getting too funky.New front end,new tailgate, new fenders, and new drivetrain. What more do we want? The drivetrain specs will be my deciding factor.I have been waiting several years for this new truck to hit the market myself..

I'll say this F**K a diesel engine. Gas prices are dropping and diesel is staying the same? Nothing I have seen about a diesel will make up for a dollar difference in fuel prices for me. With that being said I love everything about the new Tacoma, I don't see how anyone here can say the frame will rot in 5-6 years seeing as one hasn't been on the road that long yet.

Like I have said in other threads and has been asked in here, what does it take for you to consider this a redesign? Sounds like they changed a fair amount on this truck from the 2nd Gen.

All kidding aside, I like the new Tacoma, but Toyota better hurry up and get the 2016 Tacos to the dealership. I'm looking to buy now, but if Honda or Nissan have new trucks coming out at the end of 2015 or beginning of 2016, I could go either way, especially if the other two or equally priced, has the same or better fuel economy, and more power than the Taco. Time will tell.

Anybody know when the new Ridgeline or Frontier is supposed to come out?

I totally agree with your comments. Under no circumstances will I buy anything made by the UAW, and for the reasons you stated!

I think Toyota did a good job with the truck, it seems to me they have addressed a lot of the complaints people had with the 2nd gens and included features many on here have been complaining they didn't have. What more does one want? If Toyota were to build the trucks like people want on here thy would go bankrupt doing so. Seems to me Toyota kept the Tacoma DNA with this new model, Gm had to bring an all new Colorado as the last one was a pile of crap.

I'm sad to say that I am disappointed. To all those Toyota Fanboys who have drunk the Kool Aid I say watch this video. It pretty much sums up what Toyota has done with this truck. Exactly Toyota, the Tacoma has a new hat.....foreshame.

That's kinda exactly why I like it. From the awful Ford fusion grille and GMC headlights to the Mitsu style taillights. This is gonna be good; I feel it.
