Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
Did my first trail race since high school yesterday. Loved it. Lots of mud, some singletrack that slowed everyone. And ~30 deg windchill. It was in the 60s just 2 weeks ago. The weather shifts are so drastic here.

I like seeing others that are crazy enough about running to do it in all kinds of weather. I am used to it here but when I travel I rarely see runners out when the weather is not ideal.

I give up around 0, I have run when it's colder but 0 is about where I struggle to breathe a little.

I usually call it quits around 0 as well, just takes the fun out of it; if it's dead calm I might go, but if there is even a hint of a breeze at that temp I'm on the dreadmill.

Actually went out yesterday when it was 17ish. After a couple miles I was hot in the sun. I always where too much but I hate shivering when I start.

Nice work in the cold. Check out this chart for a decent guide to running gear at various temps.

This last week has killed me, I haven't run once due to being sick and unable to breathe worth a crap! I swam just over a mile yesterday and am planning on an easy run today to see how I am doing.

my piece de resistance of gear that I run w/ at almost any temp is a windshirt (mine is a Patagonia Houdini, recently bought a Black Diamond Alpine Start which I'm testing out)- I use it summer through winter; it weighs all of 4 oz, packs into about the size of a small apple, it sheds light precip (rain and snow), it blocks wind yet breathes (unlike a full on hardshell)- if I'm not wearing it, it's on my person regardless of weather (weather tends to change rapidly in the mountains)

So I decided to run 6 13.1's in 6 months, as a road racing swan song. I'll still do the occasional 5K-10K/13.1, but I'm headed into 25K and 50K trail races.

Quit crossfit in November, so it's just just climbing and running, with the occasional mnt biking. I've dropped 15 lbs since August, and for the first time since I was 28, I'm @ sub 200 lbs.

I didn't do any trail miles this week, as there was WAY too much snow last Sunday, and my "screws shoes" had no grip. Yeah, I need me some yaktracs!

^ for traction (when screws don't cut it) go w/ Microspikes, not yaktracs- I wouldn't steer you wrong :)

That's awesome! Congrats! I am also moving away from road racing. Running trail races is so much better for the soul and body.

Twice now I have almost caught a side mirror to the head running the back road around my home. Fucking crazy texting drivers.

    I love that!

Trail running is pretty awesome, my only ultra was a 50k trail race last year. Even though at times it was painful, I loved every minute of it. As much as I love trail running, and have epic trails within a mile or so of my house, I am pure pavement until June 28th, training for Ironman and don't want to take any chances with an oddball injury. It's already weird not running 5-6 days a week, down to 3 runs per week not counting some runs off the bike.

So I'm in Maui. Sulking on TW. What was originally called an infection is now most certainly an awful case of shin splints. I'm supposed to be running a marathon Sunday... Really bummed about my poor health the last two months and having to back out of the AR50 less than 24h after I signed up.

On the plus side it's 80F and gorgeous here.

    The better coast
My gf likes to run at night. Can anyone recommend a reflective harness or blinky set up?

I suggested the ankle wrist things and she shot them down.
