No. It was the correct call of the rule book.

They're still on their rookie contracts through next year, so I'm guessing they will keep them around but they could salvage a little bit of cap space if they released them. I don't think they'll do that though.

Well check again. The rules are totally different for when a receiver has jumped and is coming to the ground versus just running the ball after a catch.

Yeah, they definitely could. I think they'll hold on to Hillman since he makes a good 'change of pace' back and can pass protect pretty well.
I was really disappointed with Julius... Good reciever and a handful for passing defense but he can't block and it's so frustrating watch corners half his size easily take him out of bounds or tackle him... No fight

As good as he looked the first few games, he was more horrific after. Being banged up didn't help either.

I miss the 90's Broncos..Elway, TD, McCaffrey, Smith, Shannon Sharpe...

It would be more effective if you state why you beleive it's wrong.

FYI, when the forearm and/or elbow hits the turf it is the same as when the knee does, according to the NFL rules.

"Article 1: Dead Ball Declared. An official shall declare the ball dead and the down ended:
    (a) when a runner is contacted by a defensive player and touches the ground with any part of his body
other than his hands or feet. The ball is dead the instant the runner touches the ground. A runner
touching the ground with his hands or feet while in the grasp of an opponent may continue to
    advance. . ."

Being a Niner fan, I'd go with Roman. He'd be more suitable for a Pop Warner team.

Dean Balndino explained this already. At that point, Dez was not a runner with possession, so this does not apply. He was still deemed a receiver trying to gain possession, therefore the rule I previously posted applies.

It's a shitty rule, but its a rule. But at least the league is looking into changing it

I honestly think that one of the biggest gripes between Harbaugh and the administration was that Jed York and Trent Baalke wanted Harbuagh to fire Greg Roman and Harbaugh was too faithful to his coaches and didn't want to do that.

But as a fan that watched the team closely, Roman needed to go. Baalke's daughter knew he needed to go. No innovation, no creativity, and no in-game adjustments. Opponents went on record saying they knew what the Niners were going to run right when they lined up. Hell, Niner players (offensive players) even said it was scheme when asked why they didn't win after certain games. I'm just glad he's gone. I feel bad for the Bills though. They'll probably have some sort of success under him. But after 2 years or so, the rest of the division will catch up and Roman won't adjust, again.

    No significant mods....yet
Yeah, he's no Gronk that's for sure. Gronk practically runs corners over and takes 2-3 guys to tackle him. If JT thinks he's gonna get a contract anywhere close to Gronks, he's about to be disappointed.

Ya, the Rex/ Roman show. It could get ugly for the Bills. Harbaugh will be a God in Michigan if he produces. Who knows, he may come back to the Pros like Carroll did after doing the college thing for a while. I'm just wondering who were gonna end up with. Big ego owners are always a problem.

All of that is negated by the fact the the process of the catch took him to the ground, with or without contact. That's what you guys are missing. None of the rules you just quoted apply to a receiver if the process of making the catch takes him to the ground. The catch has to be established first before all of these contact rules come into play.

Item 1: Player Going to the Ground. If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control,
the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.

I didn't state it because it has already been stated in here a couple of times.

This is the rule I was talking about. They have so many rules that seem to contradict the others at times.

In the interests of not getting into further debate I will simply say that I agree to disagree with those who say I am wrong, and that I say they are wrong. The rule that I read shows I am right, and the rule that the others post say I am wrong. Not worth arguing any longer. The game is over and done. See ya next year. lol.

Your 2nd sentence I think perfectly illustrates the underlying issue here..and too bad it won't change what happened either way but at least if they're going to change the rule it hopefully prevents future problems.

I don't think they contradict at all. In order for the down by contact rule to come into play a pass must be caught first, following the rule we stated.

    So,

Does the player catch the ball, and if the catch takes the player to the ground does he control the ball through contact with the ground?

If No, incomplete. Period. End of story.

If Yes, is the player down by contact?

If Yes, Bryant is down at the whatever yard line.

    If No, Touchdown.

This is the same thing as how every Pats fan think the Tuck Rule was legit against Oakland. Every Cowboy fan is going to disagree with the call

Sometimes the call goes your way sometimes it doesn't. I remember 6 seconds left in an old Giants game involving the 49ers and a no call for PI which would have ultimately handed the 49ers a loss... I also remember a no call for PI on Gronk in the end zone vs Carolina, where they actually threw a flag, but picked it up and waved it off ending the game, which ended up being the difference between home field advantage in the playoffs last year... Oh well. I think it's retarded that they're reviewing calls in MLB now, too. It's part of the fucking game, you get calls and you lose calls.
