The year was 2004 and rumors of the new Tacoma ran rampant on AOL, pagers were buzzing with the news...didn't you hear? "A new Tacoma will come out next year!" Those who purchased 2004s have looked dated the past ten years. Those who bought '05s have looked new. We find ourselves in the same situation.

Will the 3rd gen body style last 10 years like the second gen? It's hard to say, but it could. You might as well not date your truck and your resale value though, so go for the '16 if you like the changes.

Will the '16 have bugs? It's likely. But then again, it's not like the '15 is devoid of defects either. At the end of the day it is a Tacoma and it will have its quirks but be one of the most reliable vehicles a fella can buy.

I all of this is to say...if you like the '16 you might as well buy it.

Only problem here is a 2004 sells for more then a similarly equipped 2005 at the moment.

I'm still hung up on the fact that you got 170k miles out of a sport trac. Man that thing must drive live a three wheeler with bent rims by now.

If you want bells and whistles get the 2016. If you are financing and want to get the best deal you can on a great reliable truck, get the 15. Both will undoubtedly be great trucks.

It's possible, but the reality is at this point you'd be looking at a ten year old truck and an eleven year old truck. The cleaner of the two will likely fetch a higher dollar, regardless of gen. A nice clean 1st gen was hard to find for me, but i'm happy with my 2nd gen.

is this going to be long term or you going to trade up/in within 4-5 years?

if long term, wait for the 2016 and decide between them. it wont be hard to get a 2015 once the 2016 come out.

short term or you need one yesterday get a 2015.

if not wait it out, it wont hurt to wait 6-9 months.
