My point exactly. So we are probably stuck with wonky taillights. They can't refresh the design, only the lights in them.

lol stuck for 2-3 years. You can always go aftermarket. I switched my taillights to Depo brand taillights. Looked better then the all red reflector in the LED housing. Plug and play, no issues with leaking or condensation.

No no, not what's inside the lights. I think what people dislike is the shape of them. The way they are molded and fit into the bedside panel.

ahhh ok I'm not too crazy about the taillights design but it's minor IMO. The interior is impressive for me to forget about the taillights and the huge front grille. Just got to wait to see the specs on the engine, tranny, suspension details, and interior dimensions before I get my panties in a bunch like some on TW

Yeah lol that's what I said, I don't like them but they are no deal breaker. Interior is gorgeous and I think that's a 100% redesign from the 2nd gen interior. It may not have EVERY feature but it certainly looks modern... God I love that interior.

Lexus GS 350 specs using the 3.5L is 306hp @6400 rpm and 277 lbs tq @ 4800 rpm. I'm guessing something somewhat similar output.

I hope a little more torque and a little less HP.

I have a kid on the way and I've dumped a good chunk of change turning my Tacoma into my truck. No third generation for me for at least 5-6 years. My wife in the other hand has nearly finished paying off her Hyundai early and wants something more mom friendly. It's come down to the 4Runner, the Colorado, and maybe the new Tacoma. May the best truck at the best deal win :D. Right now she's up for the Z71 Colorado.

Someone posted the torque curve on the 3.5L 2GR-FSE and it was about 85% of peak at 2200 RPM or so and continued flat until the jump to peak at 4800 RPM. So it's pretty good for a flat torque curve. Doesn't develop a ton of torque in the current configurations but maybe Toyota will tweak it a little bit to apply it to the Tacoma.

Mostly likely that those numbers would be tweaked to get mpgs.

I don't see any appeal in the Colorado... 4Runner or Tacoma for me.

Do you mean they would be tweaked to what I suggested? If not what do you think they'll be?

I have no clue which one needs to be higher or the ratio for MPGs. I know both numbers are higher than the 1GR-FE so mileage is going to go up no matter what. I think the reason (and I heard this somewhere else) that they have not yet tuned it is to wait and see what the competition does. When everything is said and done... They will say, "Okay, where does this engine need to be to beat out our competitors?" and go from there.

I'm thinking probably 290hp, 280tq and tow 6k lbs. 19 city/24 hwy. Good numbers to start with.

Overwhelming and a little intimidating if I am to be an engineer... I read the first couple pages and skimmed the rest.

I think they will make it match the Colorado. Honestly... I want every number to be higher than the Colorado because of this page right here.

Scroll down 2/3 to see the comparison with Taco.
I must say. Automatic aero panels behind the grille? That is fancy. Didn't know that about the Colorado.

A lot of good info and that didn't even include the atkinson cycle setup yet. A gold mine of info IMO.

They've been applied to quiet a few of there cars now. The reliability long term will be questionable at best I think on those shutters.

To be honest my wife wants the 4Runner, but there's almost 10K in difference between the 4Runner with the package she wants and a similarly equipped Z71 Colorado. The Tacoma might bridge that gap. It's her truck in the end, and while I'll help her understand the details when she asks, it's her vehicle to choose and buy.

I'm getting that it's the same bloody block. The bore is exactly the same as the current engine but the stroke is shortened by 12mm. Obviously different heads and con rods/crank.

Now I'm really wondering what the torque and tow ratings are going to be.

Right right, sorry, I don't mean to force my opinion. Her truck.

I guess I have a hard on for the Tacoma. I would fork out the cash and get it, I adore it. I think a lot of it has to do with TW. I spend so much time here it isn't funny. Best community ever IMO even when everyone gets in a :crapstorm: fight.

Toyota has never really been much about HP/TQ. The mpgs might compare to the Colorado but I doubt they will match the power numbers.

With the atkinson cycle and otto cycle setup it's going to be interesting. Throw in the D4-S aka Direct Injection & Port Injection makes me wonder how open of a range the engineers will have on the tuning capacity of this setup. It's going to be a interesting engine to open up and examine
