Needed a Battery last night and picked up the wrong size. I guess its OK??

Like the title says. Late last night in the rain my battery died. Good thing was there was a advance auto w/in walking distance. I walked over in the rain and asked if they had my battery in stock. The kid behind the counter looked up Tacoma and two sizes came up. 27F and 24F. He didn't have a 27F so I purchased the 24F. I walked it back to the truck and replaced my dead battery. I notice right away the 27F is a bigger battery. From the label the 27F has 885 CCA and 710 amps and the 24F has 875 CCA and 700 amps. Well its too late to exchange it after I installed it. What do y'all think is the battery too small for my pre-runner V6 ?? Starts just fine.

 

The 27F is standard equipment on all V6 trucks. The 24F is for I4 trucks. It'll likely be fine since the specifications are so close. Just be aware you are running a smaller battery than stock if you have aftermarket lights, stereo equipment, or other high draw electronics.

 

You'll be fine.

 

27F is what comes in the truck if you get the towing package. 24F is for the rest. You'll be fine. Run as normal.

 

27F for all V6 in Canada and the V6 with tow package in the US , 24F for the rest

I actually don't think you can get a Canadian V6 without the tow package anyway

 

OK I have the tow package. Other then trailer lights why else would I need the bigger battery. And can I still tow things like a boat with the smaller battery??

 

You can. We have one in our fleet. V6 sr5 access cab with no tow pkg. One of the reasons I went TRD Sport. Towing and more comfortable, heated seats.

 

No problem towing boats. It shouldn't have an impact on your towing capabilities, but rather your ability to supply power to the rig you're towing I believe. (i.e. charging the batteries on your travel trailer while on the go)

Tow package has upgraded alternator and an upgraded battery to go with it. (in addition to other things)

Damn, that's what I ended up buying is the 27F but the battery tie downs can barely stay on to hold the battery. I don't have a tow package and should've gotten the 24F. Oh well, the battery tie downs holds it down and I've got a stronger battery.

 

2014. We had a 2011 as well. Non SR5 model DCLB with v6 and no tow.

24F will work, its goign to drain little faster and charge little faster.
Worst come worst you will have to add distilled water at some point.
But you can keep it.

 

They will take it back. Same thing happened to me but a Autozone. Sold me a 24F. Realized my truck came with a 27F. Went down to Sam's cub and they installed the 27F. Returned the 24F to Autozone. Cashier asked how I got to the store without the battery installed and I told him how is that his concern.

Manager came over and gave me my $ back.

 

Surprising you had issues fitting / retaining the 27F seeing how it's one of 2 standard battery sizes for the truck
