By "a lot less work" would you happen to mean that you don't have to go to town on the factory grill with a saw? lol My Taco is only a couple months old and I'm still nervous about making permanent cuts but I really want a new grill. Love the way this one looks.

Nope, you still have to hack at it. But it's pre-formed, so once you cut out the factory stuff, you just mark, drill, and screw the new grill in.

There are companies out there that sell stock grills for like 40-50 bucks. I got mine at parts geek. Its a factory replacement, you still need to paint it, but I guess for a bit more you could order a painted one. Then hack away at that one. Was money well spent in my opinion!:D

Haha no,like ckeene9 said you have to go to town with a saw. I mean you just have to cut the grill out & bolt the grillcraft mesh to it. The other way involves more time, cutting, bondo & painting.

So I've had this itch that I can't describe easily. Anxiety over having a limited cab and a manual (that quite frankly I don't like at all compared to my STI). So after having the taco for 6 months (a day short of being to the day) I traded it on a used 2013, DCSB, V6, Auto, TRD O/R in none other than ........... Spruce Mica

I'm much more comfortable with this decision going forward. I know by now that I far prefer an auto offroad compared to a manual and I really wanted the extra cab space for both people and gear while wheeling (if that's what this gets used for even).

I did manage to talk the dealership into swapping the black TRD skid-plate that I have on my current access cab and swapping wheels and tires so I can keep the TRD beadlocks. I'm still in the "holy shit I just bought another vehicle phase with crazy amounts of anxiety over the payments but in reality it's hardly different and the truck is by far a better fit for my life at 25. In high school I would have killed for an access cab, but I can't ever say I'm going to be comfortable with that kind of limitation in my life these days.

    Side-by-side shot.

Hey Spruce Family! I have such a long way to go but I am excited to be making changes to my Taco.. My mother has a 2007 TRD so she passed on her rims and tires to me after she upgraded last week. I feel so much better getting those work-truck edition rims off! Plus I got a light bar for Christmas :D

Wanted an opinion on a two-tone idea. I really wanted to take the mudflaps off since the ones on my rig are cracked and really floppy as a result. I still want to take care of my rocker panels though and have 2 options.

    1. Just let them go to hell and get chipped up. When they get bad enough (2 - 3 years?) two-tone it with bedliner like most older trucks tend to do. I think I'd be doing a full two-tone line with the fenders, the crease right below the "tacoma" badge on the doors and the matching crease in the bed-side. It would look similar to this... (I can't find any shots of Spruce Mica with black fenders)

    ata6e8ad_4fd90c44f6b5b98a7e77f9c1247fa1c4d1c8f23b.jpg

    2. The other option I was considering is taking the flaps off now and going with something like a clear-bra type application on the rocker panels both from the forward doors all the way back to the rear fender, and then likewise behind the rear fender following the crease of the bedside again.

Thoughts on those options and how a two-tone might look with Spruce Mica?

Well thanks for rep'n my truck! I say go for the clear bra these green colors are too nice to cover up. I've seen a few guys do this to the rockers, TRDyota, his is red, and another couple of guys have done it. It looks like a cover-up whenever I see it especially with color as dark as black.
EDIT: I took my fronts off when I got new wheels and tires and haven't had any issues mainly because my step bars have been acting like my mud flaps.

Yeah despite not being a Spruce Mica I'm kind of in love with every kind of green, Timberland Mica was my first choice until the 2012 MY. Timberland with the black/charcoal fenders, wheels and soft-top look great together.

I'm going to give the clear-bra a shot and see if it's not too obvious of transition line, which sometimes ends up drawing attention to the area and looking like a scratch instead lol. Good to know that your nerf bars work just as well as the flaps for keeping the rockers clean. That was kind of the other 3rd option that I didn't list. A pair of rock sliders is definitely in the mix eventually.
