Fuel pump is inside the tank. Tank must be removed from the truck. Most likely bolts that hold tank will be rusted and will break when loosened. This is were the labor prices can increase. No mechanic wants to deck as l with drilling out broken bolts, which will most likely happen on 10 year old vehicle.

Seriously, so they'd remove tank, drain it, deal w/rusty bolts disaster, swap pump, and put all back together? That does sound like a lot of knarly labor. Definitely not attempting that one ourselves. Crap. Sounds like at least a few hundred+++ for labor on that. Bummer.

Guys, just started again, and got the faint clicking sound. Recorded it, and somewhat isolated general area it's coming from. Actually popped the hood (never do that - I research, husband does stuff - feeling kinda proud!), in search of EGR valve - never did find, but at least I tried, w/both crappy manuals, looking at a million different diagrams. Looks so straightforward in the books, then you lift hood and it's a different story. Anyway, gonna upload video of clicking. Apologies for poor explanation, but it's coming from the area under the hood that is directly behind steering wheel/dashboard gauges. Is that where the charcoal canister is?

 

Fucking great. So go ahead and advise me on all sorts of crap to try checking on my truck now please, while continuing to get shitfaced.

Look for fuel pump relay in fuse box under hood. Swap it with one that looks like it or get a new relay. There is a diagram on underside of the cover.

 

No place fun, just gonna work on the truck that you previously saw a signature picture. Presently grilling steaks.

 

nope, its 4 bolts and make sure any wires or brackets are not still connected to anything on the bed (except for maybe the fuel lines nothing should be connected to it and it should all be on the frames rails anyway) and then the bed comes right off after you remove the screws holding the gas filler neck to the fender.

after that, remove and/or replace pump or repair wiring as needed and put it back together.

its a straight forward easy job for you or any novice to do in their driveway.

the only hard part is having 4 people, one at each corner to lift and move the bed on and off. its not heavy, maybe 200 lbs including the tailgate, but to handle it carefully you need 4 people capable of lifting 50 lbs each. just put some saw horses out to set the bed onto so it doesnt rest on the fenders.

its 10 times more work trying to remove the tank from the truck to do it and its completely unnecessary

its under the hood on top of the fender well, its a black box with several rubber hoses connected to it

No way!! So that's what it would look like in our Taco too, or at least pretty close? That thing is in the area of the clicking I heard, where husband said he heard it too. Hmmm. WTF that means, I really have no clue. But, another piece of this loooooong ass puzzle. It's all the way over on the right, kinda above the driver's tire area, right?
