You're a 15min brisk walk from Canada: land of the maple syrup, home of the poutine. Just say 'eh' at the end of every sentence and you will go from most hated in the world to tied for least hated. You're bug out plan is simple if you don't over think it.

I'd have to walk REALLY briskly to be there in 15 minutes, haha!

I think that is a great idea. I am looking forward to hearing how it went.

Once you get back, would you mind going over your gear and letting us know what worked and what didn't?

I am currently building my BOB (but, like others, I would probably bug-in rather than out - you can only carry so much ammo!) I used to be an avid backpacker, so I am outfitting my bag from that perspective. Always like to hear what gear others select.

Just a bunch of old crap
I'm happy to share experiences on this stuff. I'm a gear nut, and I love the outdoors, so trips like these are right up my alley. I'm only changing a couple things in my bag for this trip from what I already had, only because I got some new toys at Christmas (titanium pots, Kydex sheath making supplies, new kukri, etc).

And since you claim to keep the entire bag in your truck, please include an itemized list in your response. :D

I don't use any of it, they're leftovers from an electrical engineer who has since retired. It's all destined for the dumpster, at some point. It's expensive shit, back in it's day of being new equipment anyway. That oscilloscope is worth a few hundo currently, but I don't have a clue about it and the dumpster is much easier.

You better not toss those 2 scopes there. I'd be inclined to pay shipping to me. Been looking for both of those for some time. haven't been able to pul the trigger though. It would help on the testing of the boxes I do and some of the other projects I have in the works.

Replied to your PM. There's 5 machines total, I think. 4 for sure.

This part is silly- you just have to keep the right fuel. If you're really worried about it just use an Esbit stove and fuel tablets. They've been used for decades by military troops all over the world and they're stable. Personally I don't worry too much about it and I leave fuel cylinders for my Jetboil in my truck year round; I live in SC where summer temps are routinely over ninety and I have a black truck. I do put the cylinders low in the truck and I cover them with stuff so they don't get exposed to direct sunlight.

Why not just keep some solid fuel starters (newspaper dipped in candlewax, etc) in a ziplock baggie in your BOB, and carry a lighter in your pocket? Seems like that would be an easy way around the fuel problem.

So split up the baggies; one starter per bag, and then keep the individual bags in one larger one. :notsure:

Not trying to harp on you; just trying to figure out a way that you guys can keep firestarters in your BOB. I mean, knowing (and practicing!) the primitive skills method of firestarting is definitely important, but 'lighter+firestarter' > 'Ferro Rod' in a cold pouring rain, you know?
I mean, I keep a Ferro Rod in my bob, but I also make sure to keep some firestarters in there too, because when my life depends on it I want something fast and reliable.
When I'm camping or backpacking I'll start fires with the Ferro Rod, because it's not life-or-death and it's good practice. But if I was trapped in a snowstorm you can bet I'd be reaching for those firestarters, haha!

Yep! Even with spurts or 120+ that last a few days and nights at 110. Don't worry though, it's a dry heat (or as most would say) I would love for our summers to be in the 90's only. As for summer, it is April-October and the only months you really need a hoodie is January and February. However, it was in the 70's last week.

I've been bad and haven't brought my bag with me unless I'm going camping or wheeling. Around the city, I'm just too afraid of some dirtbag scoping out my truck and seeing this nice bag in the back seat and busting a window out to swipe it. That's $700 down the drain of some finely tuned selections.

I just keep 2 knives in the center console along with my Leatherman. Crovel is under the back seat.
