The sarcasm is strong with this one. No need for 500 hp, just something that lets me know that I can get up to those highway speeds off that short on-ramp. I took the numbers from the sienna engine specs.

They didn't release engine specs yet because the truck isn't in production yet. They'll make some changes and possibly tweak the motor a little before production. No point in releasing info only to have it change at last minute

That's a horrible basis for your comparison. You do realize that this new V6 is supposed to have be Atkinson cycle D4S Port/Direct injection which would theoretically give it a much higher output then any other 3.5L engine currently offered by Toyota USA right? As I have stated in either this thread, or others, HP only keeps you moving, Torque Ft. Lbs. numbers are the ones which you should really be interested in. Especially when we are talking about a truck which is made to haul not only its own weight, but additional weight aside from it's own. That short on ramp becomes an even shorter one the higher up your torque is.

My 4.0L has no problems getting up to highway speeds on short ramps, the 3.5L will be much better.

A V8 would've made this truck so badass, that plus a power rear window like the 4Runner and tundra and it would be perfect. I still like it a lot thought and can't wait to test drive one later this year.

I think the disappointment comes from the fact that GM really did make a strong effort with their new mid-size trucks and they bring a lot to the segment. It seems at first glance that Toyota pretty much phoned it in with this redesign, and it remains to be be seen if the market really wants a more comfortable, feature rich truck (the GMs) or if the legendary Toyota toughness and reliability will be what it takes for them to continue to own the segment. The sad thing is that Toyota had the opportunity to bake ALL of the above into a new truck, but it seems they just stuck with the tired and true approach.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I can't say as though I've EVER had a problem merging onto the highway . . .

meh.. until I see on paper specs and the real test when someone buys it. I wont waste my money on a 2016 until the bugs are taken care of and what new bugs may comes out to be prepare for. I just brought the 14 last aug. and happy with it ( 4.0 L) so.
I don't care much for the front of the 2016.. too much plastic and the lower baffle looks crap.
So I am keeping mine for quite some time until the damn thing falls off or someone smack my truck up.. then may go the other way.. will see.

I think the 2016 has a lot of potential to look really good with some simple mods. I'm happy with my 2013 though. Unless the 2016 has phenomenal mpgs I'll most likely just keep mine for quite a while.

Im am curious to see how much more quiet the cab will be compared to mine. They said acoustic windshield, extra sound deadening, and extra door seals for a quieter cab.

GM had to make a strong effort with the new Colorado/Canyon because the previous gen was crap, nothing to improve on. They had to scrap it and come up with something new. Toyota already had a truck there consumers love and took that gave them features they have been asking for and fix issues/concerns we hope. Once more details and reviews are released we will see if they really did refine/tune the truck better.

One of the problems here is Tacoma is playing "catch-up" after a 10 year hiatus. GM has come out with a couple of solid trucks, based on the tried and true LFX (Camaro) engine, and borrowing many features from the "twins'" big brother, the Sierra. I've only spent time researching the beefier looking of the two, the GMC Canyon, and it just blows Tacoma out of the water. More power, more legroom (slightly), more technology, 6-speed trans, even in-cab wifi... It's like GM listened to all the complaints others were making about Tacoma, Frontier, etc. and fixed them all in the twins. I get it, Toyota wants to make money... But come on, for 10 years? At this point, it's too little too late.

I don't understand why so many people complain about their truck instead of doing something about it. If you're not happy with it, sell it and buy what you want. Kleenex stock would have been a good buy this week from all the crying going on lately.

seems like a nicer truck meaning its quieter makes a little more power and will have a more refined transmission. which by the way needed replacement the manuals where complete crap in the last trucks the clutches where anyway.

i think people where wanting a more capable truck or at least a diesel option to be offered. front and rear e lockers would have been nice to see. i went to jeep after i sold my regular cab and now i'm in a brand new power wagon and i love it! its truly capable and refined at the same time. without all these new fangled nanny sensors lane departure assist cross traffic detection blind spot monitoring etc. its a truck maybe my definition is different than toyotas customer base.

also and correct me if i'm wrong are they not making the regular cab anymore? if so that sucks! i liked my last truck it was a great 4x4 but it wasn't without it issues all of which could be attributed to the factory. the weak clutch rear springs and the squeaky climate control fan i had to have fixed 4 times before something worked. also my last truck sounded like a tin can it had almost zero sound insulation or was a half hearted attempt at that. looks like the 2.7l 4 banger is a carry over but i hope they gave it a bump in power along with refining it a bit. my 2.7 was a dependable motor and i'm sure it would have run for a long dam time but, on a cold morning to hear it backfire just rubbed me the wrong way.

the new one is nice and its a toyota i'm sure its going to be a dependable reasonably capable truck but not my cup of tea this go round.

Well GMC, Toyota can all be happy the VW Amarok isn't sold in North America sure looks like a strong competitor.

Upwards of 25+ MPG, Diesel option and decent package with quality interior etc etc...

i have seen and driven the new colorado and its a turd lol. it would have been nice to see toyota offer up a diesel option at least but, no dice.

that may have swayed my decision to buy another taco.

I don't understand people saying that the current manual is complete crap.Yes I had the throwout bearing replaced and the squeak fixed under warranty, however I don't think it is crap. My 6- speed manual shifts smoothly. The LUK throw out bearings were the problem.

    Agreed.

I don't know if anyone has seen this article from the Tacoma engineer. Gives a lot of good information on what they've done and their thought process.
