2WD Regular Cab Capable of trails?

Hey guys. I've got a 2004 2WD Regular Cab 2.4L and was wondering if it is capable of doing trails.

I've got the stock 205/75/15 all around and was wondering if you guys can recommend the biggest tires I can put on the stock rims.

uh that would be a no....unless, you have a lift kit or you have a locker, or you have some gravel at a slight grade, then i would say, no. street trucks arent really meant for off road usage. as for the tire size, im not really sure on that. sorry

 

^ Thanks for your response. I wanted to do some trails, with no mud and no rock climbing involved, but I guess it's not a good idea. LOL.

 

but then again, there are guys on here who have lifted their 4x2 reg cabs and made into a trail rig. but, it was after mucho dinero did they get it like that. im not saying its impossible, but might be cheaper just to buy another older trail rig. but your gas mileage will also go down and HP might drop alittle , with lift kits and bigger tires.

 

put a long travel kit on it and go fast

 

225/75R15 is what I run with a little rub over huge bumps going very fast. You can run 31's on stock rims a guy over on customtacos.com has 31's on his.

 

I don't see why you can't go down some packed dirt roads or service roads at a slow speed.

With hills I would just be scared of the bumper hitting. Also traction or lack there of.

Thanx, Derek shot the video when he was following me on a Cleghorn trail run. You'd be suprised what our machines can do with limited equipment and good fellow TW member guidance.

 

The 225/75x15s would be good, but with any larger tire, the question of your axle ratio and trans (auto or stick) come into the picture.

I had 31-10.50s on 7" wide rims, worked ok. So if you even have a 6" rim, the 225s will be ok. If a 7" even bigger.

As for trails--you should be ok on fire roads, and two track unimproved roads with a little prudence. Stay out of mud, scout out over the top of hills, and scout out the bottom of hills. The road may be pretty good, but at the bottom of a hill you might have a wash with square edges and big rocks. No gassing it and bottoming the gas tank on rocks....

What part of the country are you in?

 

If you're smart and stick to very easy L1 maybe even a few L2 trails... you should be ok. Also, do NOT go alone, have a 4x4 go with your with recovery equipment... in case. Your truck is still more capable than most cars for stuff like that... just remember you are open diff (I believe it's not LSD right?), no weight on the rear tires, and pretty low clearance for a truck.

 

31's are the diameter of the tire. Go to the wheel & tire section and checkout the TIRE SIZE CALCULATOR, definitely helps you understand what the series of 3 numbers mean.

It all depends on the trails you've got access to in your area.... but yes, you can take your truck offroad on the easy stuff. Find some nice fire roads and easy stuff and have fun!!

Make sure you NEVER go offroad alone. And I mean....make sure you have another vehicle with you when you go. Have a tow strap (without hooks) ready in case you need it. Carry a cell phone with you. If you're out in the sticks, cell phone reception can be dicey depending on your carrier. So - tell someone (parents, neighbors, friends) where you're going and the area you're wheeling at.

Hey - anything can happen out in the sticks/woods. Be fully prepared for it!!
