Here is my set up from birddawgindustries. I am getting shorter ram mount arms for my phone and tablet because I went too big on my initial order. I only use the tablet when doing trails and stuff because I use my backpacker app as my GPS for them and the app will record where I drove so I know where to go if I want to do that trip again.

I don't have a picture of it, but I absolutely love my LifeProof windshield mount for my iPhone.

Short arm for the phone (closest to driver) and medium for tablet (farthest from driver). My short arm is coming in today and will be testing this, but I think I will be happier with this than my current set up.

it cost him a clock :D

Newer model years don't have a clock there. Instead, they get a reminder of which vehicle they're driving.

I found one that so good I bought another for my work van. Here It comes with 2 metal plates so you can use more then one device and the arm has the magnet. never had any issues with it falling off and I was using a Note3 for work and S5 for personal.

    1. easy to put on arm. just sticks. no readjusting foam that wears or crumbles.

    2. very unobtrusive and small. dont even notice its there when the phone isnt on it.

I am buying a tech shelf for my 2015 and putting this on it as it seems to be the best location I have seen combined with a small mount!

This is what I use: http://amzn.com/B008IOQ3K6

I use my phone for GPS (Google Maps) and I was frustrated that all iPhone mounts are designed for vertical use. I like mine sideways. So I found this magnet mount and I love it.
It comes with flat metal plates and I glued one to the inside of my case. Now I just hold it next to the mount and it pops into place. To remove just pull.

The effectiveness of this mount can be affected by the thickness of case that you use, but for me it works great. While off-roading it does occasionally pop off, but it's very rare.

pops off the glass or the magnet?

I hate the glass ones for that reason. the link i posted offers a 3m taped one that has held up well.

I have the same one and love it. Small, easy to use and holds the phone well. I put the metal plate inside my phone case without using the adhesive so if I get new case I can transfer the metal plate with no issues.

No, the phone pops off the magnet.
The suction did pop off the glass in the heat of summer, but I used a dab of elmers and stuck it on again and it's held for almost 2 years now. If I ever want to remove it the elmers should be easy enough to clean off.

I have two mounts, one is suction style in the left corner. It works well and holds a Nexus 5. The other is a custom dash mount made for a Nexus 7, it holds it in the horizontal position and rests on the dash. Both mounts have done well off-road and the mounts place the field of view above the dash which is very important to me. I do not like the concept of taking my eyes off the road and looking down at anything if I don't have to. I will post pics when I can.
