Why would Toyota make two fullsized trucks??? :notsure:

If the midsize market is going to grow it'll have to continue to differentiate itself from the fullsized market. Becoming the same size as a full sized truck while keeping the Tundra around would of been a very poor move.

Oh I don't mean to criticize at all. You are absolutely right. I only question the cab because Toyota initially called the 2014 Tundra all - new and we all know it wasn't. Even though we have a totally new powertrain I'm the suspicious type.

Frankly if they had put the old cab on I'd be happy. I'm okay with the interior and exterior size of my current truck. One of the best things about the new truck is it didn't really grow in size. I hate how everything is getting gigantic.

Like I said, not too big that it becomes close to the size of a full sized truck. Just slightly bigger, the back seats in a tacoma are way too cramped, the back seats in a tunrda are massive. There is plenty of room to make the tacoma a little bigger and still have it a significant amount smaller than the tunrda.

You said close to the size of a full sized truck. I think the majority of Tacoma owners like the size of the current Tacoma. There are ways to get more leg and head room without enlarging the overall size of the truck. I think most people would of been happier if they had of done that. The last thing they would do to take care of loyal owners is make the foot print of this truck any bigger. Remember, last time the Tacoma went from compact to mid sized because that's what the market was supporting.

I said "not enough to make it close to the size of a full size truck" meaning not close....

Im not saying they need to make the footprint bigger, wheel stance, length and width of the truck would all stay the same, as the cab is the not as wide as the wheel stance or the fenders.

Definently not armor for the front end. Its going to be hard and probably look ugly to put a plate bumper on the thing. Not to mention some cutting of parts.

If it's still a unibody like the article suggests it probably is, Toyota has nothing to fear.

Yuck, it looks like the last Ridgeline made a baby with a Nissan Murano. It looks CUV from the front end with the "classic" Ridgeline look in the back but it's hard to tell with the covers over it all. Personally, I think Honda will have trouble entering the truck market significantly. People don't relate Honda to trucks the way Toyota and Nissan (Datsun) do.

I definitely think Honda has the talent, reputation, quality and capability of making a good truck, but these uni-body spaceship-looking thingies just look awful. I thought the current Ridgeline was ugly the first time I saw it. It never grew on me like the new Tacoma has.

I never said they didn't have those things, but when I think of trucks I don't think of the Ridgeline. No one does. That's a hard stigma to fight with a bubbly looking unibody truck. The longer that stigma stays the harder it is to get rid of.

I would guess right before it goes on sale. I'm also guessing they will try to match Canyon/Colorado or beat them.

The price change was just at $2k between the 2004 and 2005 (1st and 2nd gens). With the additional tech now offered and the restyle. It would not surprise me if you see double cab 4wd TRDs going for 36k. A z71 double cab canyon/colorado retails for that price or more. Toyota won't cut into their current profit margins. And your 2015 will be gold someday. The last of the first gens are, I bought my 2015 knowing the 16 was coming in a month. Don't regret it at all this is my 3rd 2nd gen, and still am in love with this truck.

I actually like the Ridgeline in theory. My friend had one and it was very roomy inside and built well.

I just wish they didn't look so odd.

It appears to me the "car" 3.5L will be ok in the Tacoma, but I sure would like to see more torque out of it than 278 ft-lbs (for towing).

HP is basically torque X RPM's. The current 2GR-FSE has that nice flat torque curve, making 90% of peak torque at 2000 RPM, stays flat until the peak at 4800 RPM, then flat again at 90% of peak torque until redline.

The current 2GR-FSE also redlines at 6400 RPM making 305 HP. I notice the tachometer on the 2016 Tacoma Detroit models redlines at 6000 RPM. That sort of indicates they will tune it to get more torque while getting apx the same HP. Say 290 HP and 320 torque.

That's what I'm hoping for anyway.
