I did and it made me even more disappointed.

In General I am disappointed in ole plain stupid. I probably should not be, because stupid is all around us and there is more stupid than smart.
Let me start with the quote from that Article
All you have to do is look at the pictures and you can see that there is much more than seatbelt bracket. When 1Gen changed to 2Gen you could see everything down to axles was different.
So quick look and realization that, Toyota Chief Engineer is a lair and stupid at that. No other way to put it.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
For everyone trying to figure out power number for the engine, there are two versions of the 2GR.

    (From wiki)

    2GR-FE (non D4-S) rated at 266 to 280 hp and 245 to 260 lbft

    2GR-FSE (D4-S) rated at 305 to 314 hp and 278 to 280 lbft

Considering we already know the Tacoma will use the D4-S injection, I think the 2GR-FSE specs should be your discussion baseline.

There is another way to put it, and that is Mike Sweers is not a liar or stupid. The body is different. The transmissions are different. The V6 engine is completely different. The diffs and transfer case are different. The interior is completely different. The composite bed appears the same but the tailgate is different.

My biggest concern was they'd screw up the Tacoma's look by styling after the latest Tundra then not make meaningful upgrades to the things that matter. Thankfully they kept the good looking Tacoma body style (for the most part) and addressed the things that matter.

I'm bummed because they didn't update the ABS to allow my truck to stop in 5ft on glare ice.

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: ;););)

I am pretty sure when somebody says the that the only thing that could be the same is seatbelt bracket but you can see half of the truck is the same, you are entitled to a call them a lair. Unless he says he did not understood the question.
That comment was on par with the ones from Chinese company making copies of western cars with their own names.

Actually , depending on how the Multi Terrain Select works with respect to ABS sensitivity , your statement may not be true

In the Q/A stream with the engineer, that Tretiak30 posted in the 2016 Off-Road thread, the engineer did say that the ABS system was new. That's all he said though, he didn't describe how it worked or how it was integrated with the new controls.

The new Tacoma hasn't even hit the showroom and people are already complaining and dismissing even owning one. How about getting some real world feedback then try to compare it to the recalorado? Or at least go test drive one when they hit the showroom.

People want a COMPLETE redesign. But don't really put much thought of what or why they want it changed. Here are my thoughts on what and why.

Frame: Why does the Tacoma need a new frame? The material used in the first few years of 2nd gen production was obviously an issue. But why would Toyota need to reinvent the wheel for a Tacoma frame? The only thing I could ask for in this department was the location of the cab mounts be moved back. But Toyota engineers aren't worried about me needing to clear 33''-35'' tires to off-road the truck. Other than that, the frames on 2nd gens were solid as a rock (after 05).

Interior: May not be every ones cup of tea, but it has a an interesting layout. Were you expecting Toyota to emulate domestic designs? I think the inside of the truck is different and I like the layout. (although the features like in cab Wifi from the GMC are nice).

Exterior: Here is where folks get upset. When I first saw the truck I was disgusted with what Toyota did. Every time I look at it looks better and better. Take the air dam off the front (which I think anyone who will off-road the truck is going to do) and the Tacoma will have pretty impressive ground clearance for a stock truck. So what if Toyota used the same cab... so did the Tundra... so did 4 runner when they under went a "redesign". The Tundra didn't get a new motor or tranny. We should have expected this from Toyota.

Engine: The ONLY thing and I repeat ONLY thing I disliked and wanted was more MPG from the 2nd gen Tacos. In stock fashion the 4.0's are plenty peppy. People look at the HP and Torque numbers on paper and compare it with other trucks. Have you ever stomped on the gas In a 2nd gen 4.0. it will get after it (even with 33's). Sure It would be sweet to have the additional HP and TQ numbers but 2nd gens aren't slow by any means. So it didn't get a diesel... I would love a diesel powered Tacoma but I'm still not sold on long term reliability and cost off operation due to the strict emission compliancies our wonderful government has imposed.

Drivetrain: Easy... dump the 8" e-locker and make the 8.4" with an e-locker. Also heavier duty leafs in the back. Done deal, although I wouldn't be mad if it came with a front locker.

All Toyota had to do for me was fix all the known issues from 2nd gen, make better MPG, and change the front end. So far they are 2 for 3. which is a win. These trucks are far more off road capable then many other trucks on the road. Toyota has been known for offering a bit more crude of a truck. At least it's not a lifted luxury car with a live rear axle which in a since I feel like the Colorado is going in the direction of. The generation we live in these days don't use trucks like they were used 10-20 years ago. It's just a status symbol so the masses don't need a capability of a real truck. I think Toyota did a good job with not steering too far from the heritage of the Tacoma. Also, folks where expecting the kind of complete redesign Tacoma underwent from 1st to 2nd gen. I think that redesign was so extensive because Toyota knew that the Tacoma had to get bigger to sell. Let's face it a "midsize truck" these days is almost comparable in overall size to what a full size truck was 15 years ago. Toyota knows they didn't need to make the Tacoma any bigger from 2nd to 3rd gen. As a result, a lot of the same parts are going to be used (including the cab). I want to see 3rd gens in action for a few years then I will decide whether or not it's worth my time and money.

So they upped the torque by about 12 it sounds like? Meh. Pretty meager improvement. I'm interested to see what the MPG on the new Taco will be like. You gotta remember though guys. A truck has different aerodynamics from a car due to its height and shape, so right from the gate, don't be expecting a stellar improvement.

Huh, isn't there a frame recall for rust out for cold weather 05 - 08 frames right now? Also we don't even know if it was fixed after 08, just that the 09+ models haven't had enough time to fail yet.

Have you seen pictures of the leaf springs in the back? Yeah real heavy duty.

Dude you live in PA and you bought a truck that has known issues with frame rust. That's your problem Im not worried about mine. Road salt usually makes steel rust one way or another.. If you actually comprehend what I wrote I want heavier duty leaves...

I wonder if " Mud Sand Dirt " mode , which operates in 4H will provide less sensitivity for the ABS sysyem on snow

assuming it functions like the 4Runner system of course

Lot's of people didn't like the 2012 than they got used to it. As I said on another thread. I miss my smaller 99 Tacoma and I like my 08. I think we will miss the 4.0L and like other attributes of the new Tacoma.
The 1st gen and 2nd gen Tacoma were completely different.
