installing speakers in 09 Access cab rear doors

Has anyone installed speakers in the rear doors of an 09 Access cab. I am thinking of doing this and disconnecting the overhead ones. Just wondering what I would need as far as mounting the new ones, looks like a 6.5" will fit in there, also where does the wires for the overhead speakers run as I would like to splice in to these and disconnect the existing ones. I plan to eventually replace the front speakers and then finally a new HU when I decide on one I like. The other question I have is there and easy way to mount the grills in the door panels or what can I do there as they are solid with no openings right now but I can see behind the door panel where the speakers will mount. Last question, is there any existing pre-wire already run into the rear doors?

Pictures would be a great help if anyone could suggest some on here or post some.

I had already looked through this thread. My problem is I do not have any existing speakers in my access cab doors but want to install them there. In order to do this I am looking for any one who has done this to find out the best way to mount grilles in door panel where nothing exists. I know I will require baffles to mount speakers in the doors themselves as well as wiring to run to them. The other thing I need to do is find the route of the wires going up to the ceiling mount speakers as I want to disconnect.

 

I think you will be the first to do this install. I am not crazy about cutting the door panel and would probably take that part of the job to a pro shop.

The wiring looks like it will go through the existing flex duct from the cab to the door without any problems.

 

I guess I will have to close my eyes and hope for the best. Actually, I was thinking about checking with a wrecking yard to see if I could find panels off one that had been a write-off and maybe get lucky that it had speakers or use them as the proverbial guinea pigs. I will post some pics when I do get around to doing it, still have not decided exactly what I am going to use for speakers.

 

Lt me know as I am in the same boat. I have an set of Infinity 6X9's that I could put in there plus a JL Audio amp that can be installed.

 

I don't know if 6x9's will fit. I do know the hole is cut out round to handle up to a 6.5 inch. I think a 6x9 would be a challenge.

 

THX for the info. That makes my decision easier. Put the 6X9's in the front door and buy some 6 1/2 in for the rear doors.

This project is a ways down the road. I have other mods I want to accomplish first.

 

A few here have done this install. requires cutting the door panel though..

Hey Ray... I'm another Ray! I'm following this thread.... I think the panels won't be hard to modify. What I am curious about is if you can disconnect the roof speakers and then tap those speaker wires and extend them to the access doors so we won't have to run new all the way from the head unit. I guess if you add an amp this won't matter but my new h/u has enough power for me and using the existing wires would be a lot easier. Anyway, I'm not doing this soon but will follow your progress for ideas.

 

Hey Ray, it's Ray. Just read your reply and my plan at this point is to tap into wires for overhead as they are going to be disconnected. I am still doing my homework at this point myself so I have not even started purchasing anything yet. Also still trying to decide on what way I want to go with new H/U. I would like to get a double din style but realistically I will most likely go with a single din as alll I really need is Bluetooth and Sat Ready.

I am new to the forum and still learning about the many features. I did not realize until yesterday that there is a way to give kudos to members if the post helps you out.

 

I finally got around to installing a pair of Pioneer 6.5" speakers in the rear doors this weekend. All I can say is what a world of difference it makes with them hooked up now and the ceiling ones disconnected even with the factory head unit. It is a night and day difference in sound and volume. I still have to finish them off with grills though so I just have open holes in the door panels right now. I have a couple ideas I am thinking about for grills and when I am finished I will post some pics. Had baffles made up from 1" MDF in the wood shop where I work, one of the perks of working for a company where one of the things they do is custom office furniture and cabinetry.
