What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Oh come on. I'm the only west marine employee here. I use that chart every day though. Super handy.

FWIW, I spent a long time on the phone with skygear, who makes his own fuse boxes that are a better product than Blue Sea... the dude is very knowledgeable and recommends 4 ga.

 

Not sure if you're disagreeing with that chart, me, or someone else lol. But 4 is what I used for my box as well.

 

Help me find this noise, just started today as about a minute after driving I hear a loud screeching/whistling/chirping noise cannot describe it coming from the right side of the truck. Sounds more like right rear anyone have any idea what might be rubbing to cause this?

 

Is it cyclical? Change with speed? I had a branch stuck in my wheel area that caused something like that in the past. Could be the brakes letting you know he time has come...

 

I didn't look at the chart, don't disagree with anyone (peace, brah), and was just posting the input I received. Your post happened to be the closest to my lazy finger and which held relevance.

That is what I am thinking... Last time at the garage they told me "soon" the rear brakes needed replacing... and its like a constant noise pretty much at any speed: slow crawl-40 or more.

Where do you guys get your headlights for your retrofits? I need some OEM style replacements but want something of decent quality that won't leak.

 

Do not buy them from Rock Auto, the ones I bought were utter garbage.. from the fitment being off and one side was permanently loose so the headlight would bounce to the actual sealing of the enclosure to the beam pattern cause the area you put the bulb was F'n crooked!!!!

I bit the bullet and bought OEM from the dealer.. cost a lot but they are perfect.

 

Got it on with a jeep trail in Ocotillo wells and it won..

As reference to my last post.. the passenger side aftermarket one was the only one that fit right.. LOL

This spring I'll get it done.

 

I'll be replacing my passenger side CV inner seal this weekend and figured that I might as well change the diff fluid while I'm there. So my question is, OEM or synthetic? Any brand names to steer away from?

 

I use castrol or whatever synthetic they have on the shelf, I avoid lucas oil and royal purple from past experience as well as they are waaaay overpriced.

75w-90 if thats what your truck uses.

75w-90 standard for first gen front diff? And Castrol would probably make sense, I use their motor oil and OCD me might like them to be the same. Haha

 

its what I use and we are essentially the same truck.

the front diff uses very little oil so buy 2 small containers and you'll have extra

I recommend doing the rear as well since you're doing the front, the rear is quick

you'll need a total of 4 liters or 4.3 quarts of

75w-90 gear oil for the front and rear together.

make sure you use a tool that sucks from a bottle and lets you pump from a tube into the fill holes, they are tricky to get too sometimes.

 

Good tips. Thanks! And my rear was just changed last month by Toyota, so there's no need for me to replace that at this time.

Rear and front diff oil - 75w-90 4 liters, 4.3 quarts

Transfer case 75w-90 - 1liter, 1.1 quarts

6.5 liters, 7 quarts of 75w-90
5 liters, 5.5 quarts 5w-30 oil

Parts needed.....
5 oil.
7 gear oil.
1 oil filter.

 

I've had good luck with Amsoil and Mobil 1 Synthetic.
