+1 I dont like having to hang a bag if I dont have to.
Winter hiking is great, no black flies, better views most of the time.

unfortunately most of the friends I have since getting out of the Army don't winter hike. and its not cheap to get into.

 finding new friends is probably easier then getting the ones I have to buy more gear lol

Is this approved for Yosemite? For now, that's my ratings standard.

Yosemite campgrounds have steel bear boxes, so you won't need the can.

Of course, but they're ground zero for testing bear cans. Not all are on their approved list, so I wonder if they've tested the can posted or not. I assume it's outside of their parameters, as their approved list is limited to backcountry type cans, but who knows.

Yosemite has the smarter bears. ;)

Google turned up no mention of that. Source? Would love to read about the testing itself, if so.

Needed a bear bin for a god price when I went on a two week camping trip from LA to Colorado, up through Wyoming down through Idaho and Utah. Found it on bearicuda website.

Looked at that one but decided to go with this one cuz it's a 30 gallon capacity and needed all the room to store all my food on a 2 week trip.

For car camping I'd buy the Bearicuda any day over the BV500 for the same price. Is there an way to chain the Bearicuda Bin?

We use them with folding reflectors. Hang one from the ceiling of the tent it makes a nice pool of light.

Yeah the BV500 is more for backpacking right? You know, thats a great question. The Bin comes with three handles that you drill holes for and attach yourself. Maybe chain it by the handles but that might be kind of weak? I'm not really sure. The great thing about it is that it has a super deep thread on the lid so it takes quite a few twists to get it off.

Yeah, its a back country can. Some kind of ability to chain it to a table, tree, or post would be great.

Homemade, or with a brand? I've got a reflector I made out of some thin-gauge sheet metal that I polished up with a dremel and some jeweler's rouge, but it took me a while. If I could get one off the shelf it'd be handy.

You could chain around the bin and run it through the handle and around the tree, table, or post. Totally could do it!

They were factory made. Slightly concave, with notches for the handle. They are two piece, pin in notch style. It was years ago and the brand name is not on them:(

Pic of reflector? I wonder if it isn't something that could be made less durable, but much easier with heavy duty aluminum foil.
