Dropped by my favorite Toyota dealership this morning....my buddies there are crazy about the new Tacoma. They've been constructing and expanding the showroom floor to accommodate more new vehicles and my personal connection showed me the sign-up list for prospective 2016 Tacoma buyers that he's already logged.

The personnel there said they haven't seen anything like this from Tacoma aficionados in quite some time, stating that the last time such interest was shown was when the 2012 Tacoma BAJA became available. This is a good sign that Toyota may have been close on their design targets....but the most questions the personnel have received there are concerns about the powerplant.

I'd much rather gauge positive and realistic interest out in the real world, than try to filter through all the Internets' personal geniuses and the prideful few that have all but painted the 2016 Tacoma into a doomsday corner.

    Just thinking out loud now & guessing . . . .

Another thought on Toyota and the Toyoda family in general. I am guessing, but Toyota-Japan probably is the largest vehicle company in the world .... still with a "very strong founding family influence".

BMW was like that too (smaller family percentage ownership in the 1980s), but not sure today where they are today.

Ford is probably has the highest percentage family vehicle ownership in the US (for a large vehicle company). But Ford & GM are run mainly by outside CEOs & bean counters now.

IMO, conservative culture, with a conservative founding family influence = Toyota building the best vehicles in the world for the money, sans a very few models. :D The main challenge with Toyota is to persuade them to change when they are on top. The 2016 is not perfect, but still a great leap and by 2 or 3 model year updates, it will be super sweet.

I was just thinking, the "haters" could try a Fiat and see how they like those.

Well I guess if I had to actually do something to shift five times from 0-60 it might cause me to pause and think.

The reveiws that I have read about other 8 and nine speed autos say that the are very, very smooth, almost unnoticeable shifters.

Affirm, and get better gas mileage at higher speeds. There was a TopGear episode with a BMW 7 series or so that got better or as good MPG's at 75 than 50

So does anyone know if it will support Apple's CarPlay? Also how many USB ports, still just 1?

Not sure about the above, but I believe ALL models will have a Go-Pro mount built into the mirror area. :D

I am an Apple owner would like to know too. :D

Does anyone know how long it will take for them to release more info/specs?

Also, if people's assumptions are correct, that this is the same engine that is already in a couple other Toyota models, I'm hoping this means worrying about major recalls/issues with the engine will be pretty minimal? I'd be pretty upset to purchase a 2016 and find out there was some major issue like the head gasket problem from the 2005 models for example.

I fell in love with that tan 2016. I am going to trade my 2013 in for a tan double cab as soon as the 2016's drop.

No idea when the numbers are coming. I summon the vast power of Google daily on it.

For all of my other Toyotas, recalls have been very limited (except that stupid fucking airbag issue, but this is a no bitching thread). The service department called me or sent a letter to schedule the fixes. I got to drink good coffee and eat cookies while I waited. Past Toyota experience says future Toyota experience will continue to be positive.

    BTW, welcome to TW!
