A lot of that was already gated by the timber company they bought it from. I work on one of the Cle Elum sections and had to have a combo and key to get there. This was never "public" land to begin with so we can't complain too much. If anything more roads will open up as the hippies need somewhere to park their Subaru's and Prius (Priii?) to wander through the wildflowers or whatever they do. It is rare that a private company gives land to the Government (public), but it happens. http://www.rmef.org/NewsandMedia/PressRoom/NewsReleases/RMEFOpens13000AcresofOregonElkCountry.aspx

Thanks guys! I've had my motorcycle endorsement for 8 years but never actually owned a motorcycle. I've ridden them a handful of times but have never got any serious time on one. Basically from the research I've done that Triumph is worth about $3700 give or take and I have to opportunity to pick it up for $1800. As good of a deal as that is, I think I'm going to pass on it..Gotta be responsible and pay off some more debt!

Gates pop up for a reason. I worked for a timber company for the summer and fall. Any land that wasn't gated was trashed. Its really shitty how people treat stuff that isn't theirs. Plus there is a significant uptick in trash when the properties are opened up for hunting seasons. You would think hunters would be the more responsible people about that stuff.

I completely agree. On the way up to the Cle Elum property you cross some public land. It looks like gypsy's lived at the camp sites after hunting season. Trash everywhere, home made shitters shot up and half burned, bar ditch full of beer cans, quads tearing up all the cutbanks, etc. Behind the fence it looks like a pristine National Park in comparison. I think it must be city people doing it. I can't fathom a country boy tearing up his own back yard like that.

Really? Man, you should at least get an old $500 plated XR or something. Life is better with a bike. Any bike. Shit hook up an old chainsaw motor to a bicycle or something, just ride!

A boy says to his day "Dad, when I grow up I want to ride a motorcycle" The dad replies "Son, you can't do both."

Haha one of these days I'll get one. Probably a KLR 650 or something. I made the decision a few years ago to buy a '77 MGB so that has been my fair weather toy. Nothing beats riding a bike though.

I don't think those guys are buying for ideological reasons. I think they are just making money. The last ranch they bought was sold to the state and is now "public" land. For me, I think that is a win. Personally, I think the state should own the National Forest and BLM land and not the Feds, but that will never happen. The interesting question to ask is why are the timber companies and ranchers selling? It concerns me that so much land is becoming unproductive. It's getting harder and harder to make it logging and ranching. Why is that?

I would worry it would fail under heavy use. Personally, I've never had any luck with winches. I've had two Warns not work when I needed them to, and seen many of the china branded fail on the first use! The best one I've used was a PTO winch on the front of a 5 ton Army truck. That thing was a beast. I carry a come along, a tow strap, and a hi-lift and have never been stuck so bad those would get me moving again.

Not sure what the GPM is; it's 1.25" pressure and return...

Cool. Some of the Army HMMWV's had mile marker hydraulic winches on them, and sometimes they worked too. Usually they spooged everywhere and made crunchy noises.

Aww, that's cute. Last time I changed the oil in one of the winch gear boxes at work I filled five empty 55 gallon drums. Then I realized that I had only nine more winches to go.
