Thats strange. I wonder why the motor would just ping? Bad ECU? Anyways if you do sell the S/C, guess I'll have to start thinking about what S/C junk I might wanna buy from ya :p

what does that code describe? and electrical problem or a knock problem. make sense, 2 different possibilities. been awhile since ive had knock sensor codes....

make sure u adjust them right, youd be amazed how many toyota trucks have rear brakes that r next to worthless because poor adjustment.

can u verify if it is pinging or not? premium fuel, id hope? do u have smaller pulley installed?

The codes are knock sensor malfunction codes for bank 1 and 2. I used to get just P0330 so I put a new sensor and wiring harness on. Now I get both. The weird thing is I know when it will come on because the engine will start retarding the timing like the sensors detect ping. Then when the cel comes on it goes into limp mode. I run 91 octane since that's the highest I can get here. Sometimes it has ethanol in it depending which station I buy from. Around here you don't always have a choice of no ethanol. I have the URD 2.2 pulley.

I can't hear if it's pinging exactly because my exhaust is so friggin loud. Under load the engine makes a noise similar to ping but I used to think it was coming from the exhaust because it's loud like the exhaust. But now it's got me thinking it's really ping.

hmmm... is there a resistance check you can do of the sensors? im bored so i will look it up and check out those codes for ya. heres an idea.... what if you swapped the pulleys out to the stock pulley?

edit: no resistance checks for knock sensors available. only for the wiring from the ecu to the connector near the, intake manifold. possible short or open in the wiring between ecu and intake? although you didn't mess with that and it changed codes after installing new sensors. sure u got everything plugged in? maybe check the pins in that connector to make sure they r making good contact?

short of that you need a shop to hook an oscilloscope to it to check the signal the sensors are outputting.....

Figure out what gear you have in your transfer case and change it. There used to be a write up on ttora that explained it and gave Toyota part #'s. I think I still have my old gear from when I did mine. I'll look tomorrow.

Changing the # of teeth on the gear corrects it. Its 3% per tooth. The gear is $30 from Toyota.

Thanks for the detective work. I've been doing a lot lately. I checked everything, then checked it again before I put it back together since it's such a pain in the ass. Today was the last day I could work on it. I moved the last of my stuff out of my shop and turned in the keys, then headed back to Minnesota. My truck has to stay in Iowa since I can't drive it 4 hours like it is. Now I won't be able to work on it for at least a few months so fuck it. Might as well pick out a new engine.

If I remember correctly, stock is a 30 tooth. 32 tooth speedo gear is TGP# 33403-39425. Camelback has them for about $20 ea. I haven't done it myself but it's on my list.

Edit: NVM. went the wrong way with the ratios. You Want a 28 tooth.

I would drop your diff, drain your oil, and check your rod/main bearings before you buy a new engine. It would make you sick if you bought a new engine and nothing changed. ^ That's a quick way to see if your engine is damaged. Granted its a little messy.

    Stock is a 30 tooth. You want a 28 tooth for 33s and 4.10s.

I wouldn't put another 5vz in it. They have nothing going for them. The 2uz is tempting since I can keep my transmission and everything. There's no 4.5l 4bt's around so that's out. There are a few 6bt's, but I'm worried it would weigh too much without a solid axle. I don't think I can afford to solid axle and motor swap this year. I'm saving for a house right now. If I have to leave my truck sitting for that long I would rather just sell it.
