    I think he was asking how old, mileage wise, your truck is. I have a friend with idle issues that now has a dealer chasing a vacuum problem in her car at $115/hour :eek:.

    I will chirp in that my Tacoma does rough idle a bit when I start it when it's cold. Sometimes it almost seems like it has the odd stutter. As soon as the engine warms up past 150F it seems fine so I assume in my case it's just the limp tune on my truck kicking in when the engine is too cold.

    I'm completely stock other than the SC. The stock tune is way rich at start on a cold morning and you can tell, feels and sounds fat. I think it sounds a little funky.

    Agreed.

    I think, as long as you plan on keeping the truck a while and everything is in good order mechanically, there isn't really a certain mileage to not install the S/C. If you blow something and you were willing to strap on a S/C for a few K, I'm sure you can afford a used motor as well.

    Anybody else have the inter cooler pump run periodically when the truck is off? I know about the fuel pump kicking on to keep pressure up, but I'm not sure why it needs to circ when the truck is off.

    You checked the IAC aka idle control valve? for proper function? I believe they are usually tied to a independent coolant temp sensor that respond to the IAC only compared to a main coolant temp sensor that respond to the main ECU aka ECM. Two of the two things I think I would check to see if they are working correctly. My car had that issue like the loopy idle and I ended up replacing the coolant temp sensor that is linked with that IAC. Because it was faulty it gave out false reading to the IAC and the IAC in return gave the engine the loopy or rise/fall idle like what you experience. Vacuum leak is another thing I would try to check too. Look at the surface where the SC and the engine meet together. It could be a pin prick leak somewhere. Just thinking of probable causes of rough idle issues.

    seriously considering a supercharger. Anyone consider changing out and their throttle body to a bigger 4runner version then porting and polishing to get more airflow?

    I've thought about it. I haven't found anyone who has done it. If there is any restriction of airflow it would help. You wouldn't need to do much work since URD already makes a fit kit for larger Toyota throttles onto our stock system. The question is whether or not there is any significant restriction of airflow with our current throttles on a S/C engine. If there isn't then we won't see any gains.

    I read a post where some guy was saying even after getting a SC his Taco still a dog?? Interested in more opinions. Especially guys that tow and drive in areas where there are steep roads.

    Went to the mountains with a truck load of people and gear and passing was working my engine hard. My lift and bigger tires are just gonna make it harder next time.

    I have the S/C on my truck and I tow into the mountains (4500-5000 lbs). I'll start off by saying you will still need to tow in 4 to avoid overheating your transmission. For some reason some people think that will go away...

    Anyways, yes the passing power with the S/C is much better. You can hold your speed on most grades without the engine screaming though the whine will more than make up for the lost noise :D. Redoing your gear ratio to match your tires would also really help towing.

    I also found my gas mileage when towing up hill is shit. That makes sense though, that power has to come from somewhere. I get around 9-11 mpg when towing with my S/C in hilly areas.

    Rock Lobster is having issues with his blower. You shouldn't drop time on the track with a blower, period. He'll figure it out someday. Until then the rest of us will continue to be his superchargers anonymous support group ;).
