Truck won't start after adding seafoam to PCV hose

    Do yourself a favor and buy some dielectric grease from your local auto parts store. Take a wire brush on a cordless drill and give the terminals and the connectors a good scrubbing, and then apply a very thin layer of dielectric grease over the entire battery terminal, attach the connectors, and then apply another thin layer over those to seal them off from the elements.

    The last time I seafoamed my truck it ran (stumbled) for about 30 seconds AFTER I turned the ignition off. Never again!
    I don't think it works anyhow. I once soaked a crusty spark plug in it for a week just to see what would happen and it still looked the same.

    :facepalm::smack: always check the terminal first. A can of coke will also clean the acid off

    It always sucks when you do something to your truck and then, purely by coincidence, something else occurs without warning. Then it's always time to freak out and run around with your hair on fire. Been there, done that.

    This x2 if it's a customer's vehicle you are working on, and the customer blames you no matter what facts are presented about what happened. If you're lucky it's a simple battery terminal cleaning.

    I had a battery issue last week. Not during such a severe procedure though. Changed out my head unit and a week later my battery died while running stereo and working outside. I ran a trickle charge on it but the batter kept dying. I thought I had a shorted wire from stereo install but it was alas just a bad battery. But I was sure I ****ed something up:p Glad your taco is ok. I would have been flipping out too:)

    Seen that before - battery cables and terminals look like new and no crank. In order to be sure there's never an issue with acid, you need to pull both cables and clean them and the post, even if you think they look good.

    Most people use the brake booster hose. I don't know why using the PCV hose would do any harm, but it might be something to consider in the future.

    Always remember that the people who write the information on the can of stuff like Seafoam really don't care about anything except getting you to buy the stuff-they will print anything to achieve that, right or wrong. Don't ever pour any kind of liquid into the intake of a fuel injected engine-not even fuel. I thought Seafoam was supposed to be added to the fuel tank with a full tank of gas?
    And don't believe everything you read on a bottle/can.

    Taking the plugs out allows air pressure to escape from the cylinders and allows the engine to turn without pressure build up in the cylinders, and without the plugs firing and igniting fuel air mixture-just a quick rotation would be enough to relieve a hydrolock. Old radial aircraft piston engines had to have this done to the bottom cylinders because oil would collect in them, and if it started like that, a cylinder could actually be blown off the engine, or damage rods and pistons. Pull the plugs on a couple of the bottom cylinders, and turn the propeller by hand to clear the oil from the cylinders before starting the engine.
    (sorry to get off subject, but nobody had told him why pull the plugs, in theory) Google piston engine theory :)

    best way to add the seafoam is to let the vacuum slurp it a little at a time with a clear tapered end hose. Best way to clean the battery posts is with Baking soda and regular tap water, scrub with tooth brush..........just put the brush back before the wifey finds out it's her's..LOL :p

    I got burned a different way a few years back, Had a Dodge Dakota. Would not turn over. Checked battery terminals, looked good (I clean 'em with some regularity and keep a protective grease on them all the time.) Checked starter, and thought it was the problem. Took it off, hit it with 12 volts, and it just about jumped out of my hand. Seemed ok. Put it back on, now thinking that perhaps the relay/solenoid was bad. Checked, everything looked good. By now I was pulling my hair out. So I took a jumper cable from battery + post to the starter + post, and when I hit the switch, turned right over. So clearly a problem between battery and starter. Removed the + cable from truck, looked normal. Finally cut the insulation back from the battery end (the insulation was tight against the lead battery connector). Green and white powder, half of the individual wires were eaten away, etc. Replaced the cable (NOT easy to find, by the way) and problem was solved.

    Battery acid is corrosive to copper, and it can be quite sneaky in how it gets into the cable. My son used to run a mobile car repair business that I helped with when I had time. I remember multiple cases of this kind of crap. Once while I was watching him hit the starter switch on a car that was not turning over, I saw smoke / steam come from the battery cable. Lots of green corrosion, high resistance, high current load, high temp, steam coming out of cable.

    Do this stuff enough and I suppose ONE day you will have seen everything.
