Just finished spark plug change...they were...

    Gapped wrong from the factory. I checked the GAP on all of them 3 Denso's and 3 NGK's all from 46 to 55 GAP. What the heck?

    Anyone else have a similar issue?

    Just wanted to say a specail thanks to Chris4x4 for the write up, made it easy to do. Thanks man, in this short amount of time on this sight I can see you are a very helpful person :)

    I dont think they are gapped wrong from the factory. I have pulled the plugs on a new Tacoma :spy: and the plugs were all in the .040 range. At 30K miles, it seems the NGK's are closer to .055 while the Densos are around .044 to .048. When changing the plugs, this is why I recomend useing all Denso plugs, as they seem to hold their gap for a longer period.

    I don't know man, I pulled them out and then checked the gap just for fun and they were all over gapped. Maybe it was because they weren't changed at 30K? The truck has just under 40K now, maybe next year I will change them out to the Denso, but the dealership parts store wasn't open today :(.

    All I know is it freaked my out...

    If you had NGk's on one side, and Denso plugs on the other, I would say they havent been changed. You need to change them at 30K.

    Do you really think they were over-gapped from the factory or maybe just WORN? :rolleyes: With the mileage you mentioned I'm thinking they just "opened" with normal wear and tear. I'm assuming plugs do not stay at the recommended gap for life, hence the reason for "changing" them out....

    If I'm thinking incorrectly....I am willing to be set straight.

    It is as you stated, they had not been changed yet. I just got the truck on Tuesday night from the dealer as a used certified Toyota, so I didn't know if they changed the plugs or not. My next thing is to look at the throttle body and see if it needs a good scrub down, the truck is idling a little ruff after it warms up.

    At least your certified had sensbile plugs in it. My "certified" had effin POS autolites in it.

    OEM running boards and roof rack. Yellow fog bulbs and WeatherTech mats and window visors.
    Do they come from the factory with two different brands? Has anyone tried those E3 or whatever their called?

    Sensible or not they should have been changed 10k miles ago...oh well, my truck has found a good new home...

    I know this is a stupid question but why would they use twp different spark plugs??
    and Why are they not using an Iridium Plug instead of standard on the V-6

    The E-3's are just hype. Use OEM.

    Cost. The engine ignition is designed for useing a nickle/copper plug. You cant just throw any plug in, and expect results. Plugs have different temp ranges, resistance, etc. Best to use what the manual says, as I have found the other plugs actually give reduced performance.

    My Friends and I have an idea. Not sure if its valid, and I cant get ahold of anyone to varify, or dipute. Anyway....The resistance from the driver side to the passenger side is slightly different. Not much, but a little. We have figured that Toyota is useing a plug requireing less resistance to reliably fire, and/or a less expensive plug.....Even at a $0.05 difference ofver a few hundred thousand vehicles, is a good savings. Just my friends and my idea.

    Yes....and the 3.0, and a friend said he found the same thing on a Camry V6, but he never sent pics, so I cant be sure.
