Engine leans to one side? (Not truck leaning.)

    Hi, I'm new here.
I was just changing my oil and I noticed that my engine is leaning to one side.
I pulled out a torpedo level and put in on the truck front and back bumpers and the valve cover.

The valve cover and the entire engine is leaning a full bubble+ to the passenger side.

I'm a bit concerned. I don't remember it doing this in the past, I always thought or noticed that it was level.

Does this sound like a broken engine mount or something serious?!

Thanks for any reply I get, and thanks for being out there to ask.

The rest of the truck has a typical, but not noticeable lean to the driver's side, as per the torpedo level.

    Welcome to TW :)

Yup both the old and new four cyls lean toward the passenger side. The whole truck should lean a bit to the drivers side (gas tank, battery, and driver all make it lean) if it isn't brand new.

Here is a picture of my 3RZ-FE doing the 4cyl lean...

Whew! Thanks Speedytech7 for taking the time to find those images and post them!
It's odd, I know, but I really didn't remember that amount of lean in there....

    Wow, thanks again! :)

No prob! Good looking out for your motor mounts, many people forget that their motor is suspended by rubber. :)

The engine leans to one side to allow proper oil flow throughout everything
Its easier to tilt the engine some than to redesign the whole oiling system.

Thanks guys! I too thought there was something wrong with my engine. Funny how I never noticed the tilt until a tree branch poked through my radiator. Whew!

Very possibly true, seems to make sense.

I understand that the engine is tilted to reduce secondary engine vibrations transferring into the chassis/cabin. I.e. a perfectly vertical cylinder bank would transfer more vibrations into the chassis, but a slight tilt to one side would offset the vibrations just enough so the engine feels smoother from inside the truck. It's a NVH thing.
