I'm too tall for my 2011 Tacoma double cab seats.

I've been trying to figure out what to do with my Tacoma for months now. I sit too high in it (I apparently have a long torso). I also, without fail, hit my head when entering the vehicle every time I get in it. Yes, I can awkwardly crawl into my truck and I don't hit my head... but that's not really a solution in my book.

I'm looking for suggestions. I've talked with a place here in Denver, CO that will consider changing the mounting bracket (or custom fabricate a replacement) so I can keep the stock seat. I hear this is important for air bag deployment. Or I can find an aftermarket seat and lose the airbags. That's not ideal and I'd still be concerned about the height of the aftermarket seat.

Ultimately, I'd love to have about 2 inches removed from the height of the driver's side seat. How I get to that point... I really have no idea. I'd appreciate any helpful suggestions you may have.

I don't know if the Tacoma seats are similar to the Tundra seats, bet there was a thread on Tundraworld.net that showed how to lower the Tundra seats. Maybe do a search over there for insperation.

Gotta ask ... how tall are you? I am 6'1" ... have put 1" spacers on the back bolts and have 4" - 5" clearance.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I installed a set of 84ish Honda Civic CRX bucket seats into one of my old trucks; best mod...ever.

Why did you buy it if you have these issues. Did you grow up after the purchase?

Trade it and get a Tundra.

I just had it at the shop this morning. They don't think they'd be able to mod the current bracket because it sits too low in the truck.

Yeah, I've thought about that. My concern with that is the stupid headrest. It actually fits my height perfectly right now. If I removed material from the bottom cushion, the headrest would be in the back of my head instead right at the neck like it is now.

I suppose I could just replace the headrest with something that has less bulge. I know people complain about these all the time. Any ideas on new headrests?

As for sitting low, my eyes are level with the edge of the head liner. I'm not unusually tall; it just doesn't fit me right.

I like the versatility of the smaller truck. I've wanted one of these for years. Unfortunately, there are some things you over look when purchasing a vehicle. I didn't think anything of it at the time... but after 6 months of dealing with it, I'd like to find a solution.

What a fucking fanboy assclown. Congratulations on making this website worse.

Its tough to figure a lot of this stuff out without driving the vehicle for a while. Most of the time, test drives are 5 minutes long, in stop and go traffic with a stupid salesman jabbering at you. Most cars also have more adjust-ability than a Tacoma and if you can't get comfortable instantly, there's usually some lever that you find after you've bought the car that makes the ride more comfortable. I'm in a rental Malibu right now that was really uncomfortable at first, but once I found all the seat adjustment switches, I'm finding its one of the more comfortable cars I've driven. The Tacoma doesn't have much adjust-ability though, and lots of people are not okay with being uncomfortable in something that costs ~$30,000.

I too notice that I sit up a little too high, it makes it so I have to hunch to reach the steering wheel. I'd prefer to be down about 1.5-2", and have the steering wheel extend another inch or so.

I'm only 6'1", but my upper half is taller than most apparently.

Lol. Trolls will be trolls. At 3,000 posts, he must think he's got it all figured out. Sounds like you and I see eye to eye on the fit. I'm talking to an upholstery shop today to see if they can remove some of the height from the cushion.

I don't even have an issue in my first gen and I'm 6'1" ... Never even came close to the ceiling on my 2nd gen when I had one. 2nd gen was far more comfortable too.

Wonderful. The "I don't understand why you have a problem" derp derp is super helpful. If you're not gonna help, no one wants to hear from you.

"If you're tall, why buy a small truck?" That's not helping either. Don't be stupid. There are more reasons to buy a vehicle than the height of the cab. All problems can be overcome... well, you're stupidity could be a challenge.

Again, shut your yapper if you're not gonna be helpful. You're all a great introduction to this community. Thanks for that.
