A while back I put 3rd gen 4Runner seats in my Tacoma. It's super easy! A few people had been asking to see some photos so here you go!

As far as the install goes, 3 feet line up perfectly, but the front inside needs to be cut off the old Tacoma seat frame and swapped out with the 4Runner seat frame. I cut then bolted it When you test fit the seats, you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

Today I installed a center console from a 4door Tacoma. It lines up great. I didn't have pre drilled holes so I ghetto rigged it with self taping metal screws for now. If it gets loose I will drill out and bolt it down.

00 SR5 yeah, difference is, actual cup holders, and instead of one compartment there's two on the 01-04s. Much better console overall

so when I go looking, what years are the 3rd gen 4Runner seats so I can tell them what I am looking for?

also do the seats have the seat belts attached or do they need to be floor mounted?

do the seats fold forward for rear access? I have access cab so only 2 doors

From 96-2002 any 3rd gen should work. These are from a 99 sport.

Seat belts are actually bolted onto the frame of the seat, I swapped them, it takes one bolt.

They fold forward and I can access the back, without and issue.

The only downside is they don't do the slide forward and fold in one motion. You have to move them forward and fold them individually.

Where'd ya come up with everything? I have a 98 identical to this but it's grey/blue inside, and hate the seats. It has true buckets now but I bought it with 60/40.

Do you have any idea if the width of the opening into the back when the seat is folded forward changed any with the 4runner seats?

    Does that make sense?

With my 60/40 bench folded all the way forward I have to fight to get my ARB fridge into the back. I would love to swap a set of bucket seats in, but I absolutely cant loose any width to get in the back and if they folded even further forward that would be ideal!

I have been handling 4runner seats for several days going through salvage yards and have 3 in my garage now along with the taco seats I got today, and I can say for certain the seats are exactly the same size as your passenger bucket seat. they do differ in the flat style verses the contoured style with raised sides so I don't know if the seat brackets are sized differently for those but it does look close to the same.

the access you have will not change but you might be able to mount the seat rails more forward to give you more rear access but it would require creating new holes and some sort of spacer in the front to support it since it wont be sitting on the raised seat channel brace on the floor. its very doable without too much involved but definitely not bolt in simple as putting it in the original location and swapping the one front foot on the seat. just be sure if you move it forward you keep in mind tall people will need to adjust the seat back so I wouldn't go more then an inch or it could cause cramped seating issues from not going back far enough.

I just scored a true OEM taco driver bucket seat with trashed cushions so im taking the cushions from the passenger seat that came with it to replace the seat cushions and back cushions with. if you can, this is the most desirable way to go but they aren't easy to find.

now I have a nice pair of 99 blue/gray 4runner seats complete with all the moldings that im not going to be using and will have to sell. I also have a 98 4runner seat with the raised edges I bought only to find it had a different pattern design, it had that stripped look center design where mine are flat muted brown pattern to it so it would have been a very obvious difference so I decided not to use that one unless I could find a matching one but I couldn't. so here I am with 3 4runner seats that fit tacos that I cant use and need to sell lol.

one added item I need to mention, only the sr5 and sport model 98 4runners bolt up to our trucks, the regular 98 4runner has a totally different style mount like the 2nd gen 4runners do so those are not donor options unless you just want the cushions and covers.

I need to correct you here, after searching the salvage yards I can confirm that only the sport and sr5 4runners from 96-02 have the taco style seat bolt pattern.

I don't know about the 99-02 but the 96-98 4runners in the base model still use the 2nd gen 4runner mounting style so I cant say they will line up with our bolt hoiles.

its not a huge deal and should be obvious and easy enough to see the back inside foot bolt goes into the floor and not side mounted to the hump like our tacos so I just wanted to share that little added info. so if anyone is looking for seats just be sure to keep in mind not every 96-98 4runner will have the same style seat mount.

yep, had me walking the salvage yard scratching my head why some 98's had the side mount and some didn't until I realized what was going on. the regular base models also seamed to have cushions that weren't as thick.

I also want to add that any year 4runners seat cushions and seat backs will swap out so you can get a trashed seat for the base mount and get seat cushions and backs from just about any year 4runner. the ones I saw were 93,94, and 95 years and the only difference was the base mounts.

it did seam the 98 and 99 4runner's had slightly thicker seat cushions than earlier years did though but the size was the same
