All good info, thanks again to everyone.

I'm heading back to the dealer I got the estimate from today to have him re-estimate the newly discovered cab/bed damage as well as my airbag lights both being on. I;ve also contacted an appraisal company on beavis' advice to get a diminished value appraisal that should help tip the scales into the total loss side. My USAA field appraiser wont look at the truck till tomorrow.

What aftermarket stuff should I take off/leave on? When I talk to my agent tomorrow I'm going to ask how they value that stuff.

They will give you more money for your value if you have AM parts on but its not what you paid for the parts. But, in all reality after you put something AM on your vehicle you don't get that money back :(. But they still will give you money for it don't get me wrong that's just the rule of thumb.

I would leave your stuff on. And personally on the diminished value and the appraisers, I choose not to go with an appraiser. A couple of guys on here are insurance company appraisers and they will tell you that the ones you hire for third party DV claims, they tend to inflate the DV of your truck and its a bit of a waste of cash so up to you. I just went to the dealers and got Blue and Black book values.

The airbag light is just a quick reprogram of the ECM its just a sensor that was tripped when it felt a collision it shouldn't be a repairable item but correct me if I'm wrong. If you bags didn't deploy you should be good on that.

Do you have any pictures of your frame?

Anything you want to throw on the new truck. They might give you some value, but I doubt it's going to be enough to get a new truck and do it all over again.

Stuff like wheels/tires, BHLM, fancy interior goodies, etc...

More good info. I finally got to talk to the field appraiser yesterday. He seems like a good one and said he likes to try and get done whatever the "member" (me) wants, and if he can get the numbers to justify totaling it, thats what we'll do. He is gonna try and squeeze me in today so I might have an answer by tonight! He seemed super cool and eager to answer my questions about aftermarket parts etc. So we'll see.

Here's a big pic of the frame. Toyota said it's totalled

Hey, I missed the part where they hauled off the perp with the suspended license in handcuffs and impounded the wreck...

that's cause Virginia is a wonderful magical place where you don't go to jail for negligent driving with a suspended license and no insurance

edit: and impounding the wreck only helped him out, didn't have to pay to have it taken away from the scene. He'll never pay a dime for what he's done. I can only hope he'll get aids soon and die choking on a menthol newport.

Glad you and GF are OK. I had a 94 totaled after it was rear ended. Good luck with getting your's totaled. Sounds like you might have a decent adjuster.

thanks, yeah fingers crossed. the KBB value of my truck is right at $24,000+, I need 60% damage ($14,400+) to total. I think it should be easy to do with the newly discovered cab damage. ;)

Be sure to leave the Christmas lights on the sliders - might be just enough to get you over the totaled threshold!

Seriously, glad you are OK and hopefully it has been enough days to know neither of you suffered any soft tissue damage. Sorry to hear about the truck, but hope you get enough for something nice and new - one good aspect of the high resale value of Tacomas! And I expect USAA will treat you right.

USAA should take care of you, they have been great to deal with when I have been in an accident. Never caused an accident, but have been rear ended nine times now. Luckily only been injured once. My latest wreck the guy hit me and then blamed me, still waiting for Farmers to pay for the damage. USAA paid to repair the truck quickly and did not try to nickel and dime me on the repairs.

The truck can be repaired or replaced, the important thing is that no one was injured.

I am just amazed on how much damage the frame took...and how good the body integrity was. If my truck got wacked that hard tomorrow, I would gladly take the insurance payout and go get another one.
