just got my 04 Tacoma in today and I'm impressed at the stereo ( factory). I actually don't have to make any changes right away but I do know I want to be able to listen to music off my phone through the Tacoma's system. I did see something in best buy for 70 bucks that allows you to play your music via factory radios that doesn't have at least an auxiallary connection. It's gotta be one somewhere cheaper though lol right?

    thoughts guys

Your head unit needs to be blue tooth compatible and I dont think the stock stereo is , I know mine wasent and I bought a Sony blue tooth head unit from Amazon .Not sure how you could stream the blue tooth signal .

yeah that does sound like it makes sense.

dang I guess I will be changing the head unit faster than I think maybe. I certainly am not going to start making cd's again. I'm trying to move away from them and just play music via , or mostly via my phone.

yeah I actually wana change the head unit in the stang so will more than likely take the BT pioneer out of the stang and put in the Tacoma then get another for the stang.

if the Pionner is about 40x 4 or something like that it has to at least be equivalent or sound better than the factory radio and actually I was impressed overall with the factory stereo in the truck. Not sure it has a factory amplifier in it or not....????

Correct, No amp on the 1st gens (unless it had the JBL system, but I've never seen the option on a 1st gen, only heard of it)

I believe it would say JBL on the radio or door speaker covers if it had the JBL system.

yeah i noticed that when i started to get a 2013. The 2013 is the first yr they started with the wireless BT for streaming with fone, and wireless not needing a cable. I noticed that the stereos that said JBL on the radio were actually the premium sound system and if it did not say that on the radio, it could of just had the jbl speakers. It was nite and day from jbl system to the " Premium' system. I actually during those few wks told everyone i spoke with that the premium was a must lol. I didnt want to have to add anything to the system and that would of been perfect for me.

Now thinking this morning about my original question, it necessarily won't be BT streaming. It would just be a way for you to play the music from the phone thru the stereo if the radio didnt have an Aux spot. So yeah the one I saw in Best Buy would accomplish that. I will look on Amazon and ebay though

    LOL, rear defroster.

no but seriously trucks usually don't. the regular defroster will be enough to clear up the back window in the confined spaces.

as for your stereo you would just need a HU capable of connecting via a USB port to stream music on your phone.

If you plan on keeping the factory radio you can get this plug and play device from USA Spec (current model is BT35-TOY) which gives you Bluetooth capabilities and works for streaming.

I have not tested these so no clue how they work, last model I heard about was the PA15-TOY which was strictly and Apple 30-pin interface that played music from iPhone/iPod. The website says the BT35 works for and '03 so :notsure:

also the price of the BT35-TOY is around $130 ish so take that into account for pricing a new HU

To add. I bought my JVC double-din unit with BT built in for $170 from Crutchfield and it works perfect for phone and iHeartRadio playback (albeit you will need to turn the volume up a bit)
