AR-15 BS Thread

LPK should be here in a day or two and hoping to put it together this weekend. Any advice or tips/tricks for a first timer? Any particular YouTube build videos you recommend?

 

I used this guide the first time. I prefer pictures over videos though

Pretty much if you cant figure out how to install something just google "installing forward take down" or "installing bolt catch" and youll find tons of videos and pics

 

For a noob? Wear eye protection! Springs and detent pins can and will likely get away from you a time or two on your first build. They will hurt if you get popped in your eye, almost fell victim to it before myself.

 

Also, this video by nsz85 is one of the best I found when I first started throwing them together. Very informative.

Put the lower in a large, clear plastic bag to install the detent for the pivot pin, I lost my detent because I didn't do that and had to make one out of a nail.

 

Slide detent spring in. Use a pair of needle nose to get the detent started, then push it all the way in with a razor blade. Install pivot pin, then remove razor blade. There's a big enough gap there for the blade. Haven't launched a detent or spring since I figured that one out

 

This method works great, it's the method I use, but I still put the lower in a bag in case I screw up and the detent goes flying.

 

Shot is busy as all heck this year. I still haven't escaped from our booth to check out all the cool new toys out there.

Yea but the one in my link doesnt have the sectioned foam. You gotta cut it yourself.

I use that method also, still shot 2 detents across the room on my first try. Now, I can do it no problem but the first one it helps to have some spares.

 

I've had one of those for about 3 years....LOVE it. I've flown with my rifles in there all over. I have a shorter (38") case for my AR as well. I think they're just as nice as my pelican case.

 

Holy shit, I need to work some overtime.
