Earlier I stated that I have never known a vehicle to have as many "common" problems as a Tacoma and, that I was going back to a Ford. From what I have read on this forum it seems Many people have had issues with sloppy steering, broken leaf springs, melting headlights, rotting frames, etc.I personally know of no other brand with this many serious but common problems. If I am wrong, than correct me.Am I the only one who believes that after paying 30 G's or more for a vehicle you shouldn't have to spend thousands more to make it right.I had to "shim" my steering shaft to make it handle properly. After making my previous statement it seems I left some people scratching their head.I am the one now scratching my head.HOW can anyone be that brand loyal??Yes,all vehicles have their issues. But this many serious-common problems,None that I know of.

You are on a forum of 100,000 plus people who all drive the same truck.. Of course you are going to hear more about the problems here. Some people also only join this forum to ask about problems. Go search on a Ford/Chevy/Dodge/Honda/Whatever forum and see all their problems.

That being said. Yeah, the tacoma isn't perfect and I'm sure some people on here will tell you about how perfect it is and tell you to gtfo..

    Edit: That didn't take long

It's bc the toyotas last longer than 3 years. I personally have had none of the problems you mentioned. Just a squeaky blower motor replacement under warranty

go on any forum and you will hear about the problems a vehicle is having. toyota sells 10,000+ tacomas a month - so there are going to be a handful of complaints on those.

aside from the frame rust problem, i have had zero problems with my 10 year old, 130k mile truck. lots of abuse, not a lot of maintenance to be honest. all cars/trucks have problems. there is not one company that produces a perfect, problem-free vehicle.

as far as the rust, a lot of other companies would leave you empty handed after 10 years your truck starts rusting, toyota has owned up to it and is fixing the problem. i'm very satisfied with my truck even with some of these problems.

Aside from a major problem you haven't had any problems, gotcha. Well my dads 05 Sierra CCSB Duramax has been punished alot more than ANY truck on this forum, is pushing 150k, I maintain it in the driveway, has NEVER been in the dealership for anything, still has an original frame and everything is still great. My 06 Tacoma DC 4x4 had more problems and only made it to 70k miles.

No vehicle is completely trouble free, some are worse and some are better but a truck that has years and years of systematic frame rust/failure doesn't go in the "no problem" category. Some people are just delusional.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
IMO it is the parts vendors who contract with Toyota (or any customer these scumballs deal with) They present a strong solid piece and once they get the contract these pieces of human garbage go ahead and use inferior material to boost their bottom line with zero regard for your safety. Like Takata I'd love to see the individuals involved commit suicide. Maybe put in prison is better. So far and with the help of Communities like TW my 10 Taco is cruising into the future less expensively than any other vehicle (in it's price range) I've come across in the last 10 years. I feel your pain, though. Carry on. :)

    Nu2Toyota,

    Here's my $.02:
Between me and my wife, we've had 6 Toyotas since 2006 (3 Tundras, Rav4, 4Runner, and my Tacoma). None have ever been in the shop for anything except tires, battery, and oil changes.

Disclaimer: I am not a a hardcore off-roader or abuse my vehicles. But I don't baby them either. Never had a problem.

Go over to the Ford Fusion forum and ask how great their electric power steering racks are. A $1700 fix at 50k miles. No vehicle is perfect, and on an enthusiasts site of course you hear about the bad more than the good. Having said that, I've owned 4 tacos, a tundra, 3 4Runners, and a celica. I've only ever had minor stuff go wrong, but I don't beat them either. Bottom line is if you don't like your Toyota, it seems there are going to be more choices in the future.

every single chevy that we have owned has had WAY more issues and lasted a lot shorter than every toyota.

Never had one engine or transmission issue in the 5 toyotas our family has had (only got rid of them for something newer)

All the american made trucks have needed transmissions and major engine repairs within the first 100k miles....

I think there are people Naive enough on these forums that think Tacoma is the best thing to ever roll on 4 wheels. There are also people who are Naive enough to think Ford, Dodge and Chevy are the best things to roll on 4 wheels. Personally I think Tacoma quality is going down hill a little bit.Not saying they are worse than other makes but not the same as it once was.

I have an 06 with 181k miles and I abuse the shit out of it, not even going to lie. However, all it has ever seen is standard maintenance (oil change, spark plugs, air filters, etc.) and one fuel pump. I've never had any of the problems you mentioned. As someone else mentioned, you're on a forum where a lot of people just come to ask questions about problems. Get on a ford forum with half this many people and you'll see the same thing.

Prior to owning my 2003 Tacoma I owned a 2001 Ranger v6 4x4 Edge. You want to talk about a truck with a number of serious but common problems. I owned thetruck for 18 months and put only 8K miles on it. Ironically I put over 15Kmiles on the loaner trucks the dealer was providing everytime the truck when infor service.

It all started with a clicking from the rearend that tuned out to be anissue with the diff so they replaced that, then the pinion support bearing failed, the U-Joints failed, numerous electrical issues both inside and outside requiring them to replace both engine and interior harnesses, then the ECU died. Finally got it back to find out the vacuum hubs wouldn't engage the front wheels so they messed with that on several occasions then the transmission problems began. After the dealer had my truck for over 5 weeks the last time I finally get my truck back on a Friday night. The following Saturday morning I was cruising down a local 2 lane when all the idiot lights on the dash lit up.I started to slow down but before I could stop I heard a large bang under the hood and the magic smoke and steam was let out.

Getting out of the truck there was oil and coolant leaking on the ground. Lifting the hood I could see a large crack in the side of the block and parts of the oil pan looked like someone was trying to get out from the inside with a hammer.

Needless to say I called the dealer and had enough. The moment I said Iwanted to discuss lemon law to the dealer they agreed to refund the entire purchase price, all payments made,i nterest etc etc. That afternoon I was pulling off the lot in my Tacoma.

Fast forward 12 yrs to the 2013 Eco-Boost F150. My buddy bought on new offthe lot in early 2013. After a total of 4 months back at the dealer in thefirst year he screamed lemon and was given a complete refund no questionsasked.

It says a lot about a company when they don't even contest when a customer says lemon. They know they make and sell crap and they're just hoping they can get people to keep more than they return. You want to see how well a Ford is built, just stop by any Ford dealer and look at the lines of trucks waiting behind the dealer for parts.

Tacoma's aren't perfect and the frame issue is inexcusable and the ABS is going to kill someone but compared to a Ford, Chevy and god-forbid Dodge its miles ahead.

Go ahead and get your Ford.. You'll be back.

My buddy has a duramax that he can't keep running because the DPF keeps clogging up, and cost him 500-600 to replace it every 20k miles. Way more expensive truck than a Tacoma. It's all over the internet how this problem exists and NO ONE is doing anything about it at GM. Figure it out.

No vehicle is perfect, Tacoma has problems, they all have problems. I see more stories of 300k+ mile tacomas on original drive trains than I ever have other brands.
