    Odds and Ends

I intend to buy the SR5, stripped down of all costly suspension/skidplate/locker upgrades.
Then I will proceed to have my way with it.......

I have been waiting around since 2010 for a redesign so I will likely get a 2016. I probably won't get one of the first off the factory floor.. but maybe by next Christmas I will purchase one.

If my budget works out I'll be at the door for one of the first ones on the lot. Crossing my fingers the bed dimensions haven't changed much or new shells are ready by then so I can have it set up out the showroom floor.

This would be my first new vehicle, and after owning mulitiple first year Toyotas (96T4R, two 05 Tacos) I have no fears of issues for Toyotas.

Having a shell from day one is an issue with me also.
From what I can tell so far the bed is the exact same on the top and inside but the tailgate could cause issues for hatch of existing model shells.

for me the interior/powertrain will be the determining factor, id buy a current gen but i hate the grey or sand colored interiors and the 4.0 just feels sluggish

I'm now on a pre-order list. Dealerships have not gotten anything, which is to be expected.

I'm probably going to buy the 2017. I always buy 2nd model year. This will also insure I will have a 3rd gen the longest until it is obsolete when the 4th gen comes out.

I'm in. Love the tan color. Expecting them to come out around July or August?

Well, now we know a bunch more. Actually I think it is a nice refresh and I'd be happy to own a 3rd gen at some point. However, for me it looks like a 2015 because:

    - Availability, even if it comes out in August and I get one right then it will be cutting quite close to when I need my truck and it will need mods after that.
    - Aftermarket, the front bumper is going to give the aftermarket fits and they've changed all of the suspension as well so there is a risk I'd be dead in the water for a year as far as aftermarket goes and I'd be the guinea pig on everything I bought.
    - First model year risk, this is of course not for certain and perhaps paranoid, but they have changed essentially everything in the drive train. Since 1989 and the exploding head gaskets each 1st model year has had issues and I just don't feel like risking that experience. Hopefully it will all be fine and my concerns unfounded.
    - Don't need any of the improvements, fundamentally the 2nd gen has everything I need and while the 2016 has a whole bunch of nice upgrades none of them are make or break for me.

So, I won't be one of the first ones getting a 2016.

Buy a 2015 now and it will look like you're driving a 10yr old Tacoma when the 2016 comes out in a few months.

Well, a three year old Tacoma - it had a refresh in 2012 right? ;)

I'm driving a 1992 right now. Plan to run this next one till 2035 or so. If come 2035 people think I'm driving a 30 yr old truck they might mistake it for a classic!

If I get a 2016 now, I’m good til 2023 when we see new grill on the 3rd gen.

I thinking about trading my 2014, but my '03 is staying put!

I'll make up my mind after all the details are released.

I would love to get a 2016 but my darn 05 refuses to die. 240k mi of hard use and abuse. Hell i dont know how long this truck could last. Oh and all of you that are concerned about the first year of a new truck, mine was #1469 off the line in 05 and I have never done any work to the engine, transmission or clutch except plugs and engine oil changes.

I'll certainly consider buying the 2016. Give it a test drive, see what I can get for a low mileage 2012, and decide from there. Most likely would wait until next January so I hear all the complaints from those who are already driving the new truck.
