My buddy told me about this show/race. He said there is a prize of $100,000. Sounds like 15 days well spent win or lose. Anyone know what the qualifications to register for the race are and where to register? Or is it just a TV Race? I cannot find anything on the race qualify info, only clips on those guys driving. Not sure I would say they are racing from what I saw.

It was just a reality TV type show. It actually took two months to film and there is NO road or trail that goes where the show claims. They faked the names of many areas and roads among other things and many of the trails you see do not even come close to one another. Editing and narration made it seem like a long trail. Much of what you see is movie magic though the participants did compete in ways but not really as represented. Each segment was times though. Note: If you watch close you can spot some of the bridges they bypassed for dramatic effect over or around the mud bogs. As it was for a TV show, they essentially had a casting call. It was advertised in several Alaska newspapers. They contacted Rich directly as he had done some TV (Monster Garage) with them previously.

I watched the show, but most of the time I was saying out loud what they were doing wrong.

Show consisted mostly of edits of trucks going through the same bog over and over again, with the classic "car crashlanding on pavement" screeching noise thrown in.

No one has front lockers, which I thought was ridiculous.

Most of the terrain shown consisted of mud bogs. Being from Alabama.... that's a big yawn. Been there, done that. Show some more rawks. Of course if that were the case, that IFS Runner would have been out of the picture very quickly. 35s + IFS + rocks = broken shit.

Some of the characters were way too whiny. OH NO I DONT LIKE HILLS! People who flip out on the trails get on my nerves the most. Get a tampon out of your purse and keep moving, and if you're in the passenger seat, STFU so the driver can keep the whole damn rig from flipping off the side of a mountain.

With that being said, when you look at the angle of the hill relative to the camera and it's a 15 degree incline, big whoop. Half the time the camera was tilted to make the hill *look* steeper than it really was. The dude that "passed out" because he smacked his face on the headliner.... how about wear your damn seatbelt.

I only DVRed it for ratings purposes. Maybe if the marketing folks see that the show got good reception, they will start actually making more quality offroading shows on network television. I know that's optimistic considering how dismal this show was.

OH and when the dude fabbed up a "homemade land anchor" and they showed him welding one huge bead in one spot, THEN HAMMERING IT, LMAO!

One thing you have to keep in mind is that most people who watch History Channel probably don't go off-road. I am sure the target market was the same as for other shows of that "type". I.E.: Ice Road Truckers, Deadliest Catch, Dooms Day Preppers, etc ... The format was very close to those. In that respect, the show was well done. Well, as well done as the first season of the other shows anyway ...

I watched the whole show. I enjoyed watching the trucks and terrian. The characters were the down side. I like Peet and Shay though. I think its a step in the right direction. I like being able to watch wheeling on tv as opposed to Youtube and it gives friends and family some idea of what I do on my weekends even if I have to point out everything they are doing wrong. I hope the history chenal continues to produce a show like this but more like expo overlands youtube show.

I think the one thing I got from the show is that, with a little hillbilly ingenuity, hammering my hi-lift in the dirt can make a land anchor :D

Yeah. some of the stuff they did was alittle ridiculous. Sitting on the hood and holding winch wires together on a winch with a steel cable line (with no wieght on the line) while winching and driving seems a bit unsafe.

If I'm not mistaken, the ratings for all of those shows are falling. I'm hoping they are looking for a new target market. But again, I'm being optimistic.

yeah almost every time the winches were being used, there was someone in clear view of possibly getting hurt if the winch were to fail.

What's "a real offroading show" mean? Just curious. (This question is to everyone, btw)

    Wheelin' with no bullshit. :p

Doesn't have to be ground-up built buggies, just people who aren't complete morons. If you had all those same rigs in the show, but competent people at the wheel, and better/more difficult wheeling terrain (and none of those silly theatrics), the show would have been great.

A show that has technical obstacles, different trails ranging from easy to hard, and a section where people show off their rigs and mods. And of course, not having it be super Sciency and nerdy lol

^^ Cool on both replies. If it was only technical, wouldn't it get boring? Also playing to people who generally don't offroad is a good thing, though, right?

A noobs vs offroad veterans show cool be cool. Vets can show the noobs how its done and the viewers can learn. You could handycap the vets by not giving them every equipment option. Also, dont make it a race. Just need to complete the journey for the money. The noobs could still be outdoorsy people (mountian bikers, hunters, backpackers)

I'd love them to come out with a show for offroading comprised of going to all the different Offroad parks, legal places to wheel, etc... around the country and other countries and just wheel it.

No prize money, no competition, no drama/ theatrics, just good old wheelin' the right way, not the half-assed bad idea stuff they showed in this show. It gave us offroaders a bad name with all the dumbass things they did in the show.
