I drove a 2014 Grand Cherokee and a 2015 Cherokee today. The Grand Cherokee suspension was too stiff. The Cherokee (built on the Dodge Dart platform) was much better. The Cherokee seats aren't great, and neither is the steering feedback. The steering wheel is too fat. It's probably usable.

I also drove a GMC Acadia and its quieter Buick cousin, the Enclave. $40k should buy seats with side bolsters, not a road-going sofa. Steering? Not a Honda. 2014 Honda CRV was too tinny with excessive engine and wind noise. Why can't they build a towable Lexus?

I don't know if the 2nd iteration has one, but the original Lexus GX470 had a manual transfer case. I always wanted one of those as a winter daily driver if I hit the lottery.

 

I looked at the towing section of the owner's manual. It says to never tow a 4x4 with any wheels on the ground. I can see that at least some models (I assume all but Limited) have the J-pattern manual shifter. I can only guess that the parts of the case that are still being spun when it is in neutral will be damaged if flat-towed. I wish I new better.

 

From what I can see on Wikipedia, it looks like all of them are full-time 4x4 with a locking Torsen center diff. I had a 1977 K-5 Blazer like this. It was an unstoppable beast in the desert, but ate-up tires faster than any other vehicle I've driven. The transfer case shifts manually, but there is no neutral.

 

It's just like a V8 4Runner, it doesn't eat up your tires. You'll be fine
