I've never had much luck with Modern. They kind of suck IMO, at least the salesmen and service dept. people I've dealt with.

Believe it or not I see a lot of good stuff going on in this drawing. Things to consider are what experience/instruction leading up to this portrait was involved. I don't know what level of instruction you received prior to this so to that end I will say I'm seeing a limited scale of values present, and some issues with proportion of features. That said, some of features have some really good attention to detail and accuracy of features even though they may not be properly located.
I'm about to start a unit on Monday in portraiture. First thing I do is have student take a crack at doing a portrait without me showing them anything. I'd say a good amount I see when I assign this look very similar. I'll take some pic when I do it next week.

I will say though, having kids now has really got me into art again. I'm considering taking up oil painting. My skills are there just kinda rusty.

Raw bacon on a rack. Brush with syrup and in the oven. Keep flipping and sryuping until desired doneness. You're welcome.

 

Although it was cool to read an artist's opinion on it. I'm sure an actual artist drew that for the movie. Making it look F'd up, but couldn't help put in the details you described.

It's not a bad thing to get into the arts. Keeps the gears turning in ways it doesn't usually. Although in a profession like yours the thought process is similar. + side in the end you get to keep it and nobody scarfs down your hard work! I actually have to take a graduate level course this year in something not sure what yet but need the credits to maintain my certification.

 

Yeah, will work with brown sugar too. But syrup is the bestest.
