    You MAD?

Tacomas can tow. Tacomas can be equiped with a tow package. Logically there are limits to what a Tacoma can tow. Logically you buy a truck that suits your needs, so if you tow a small trailer you buy a small truck, if you tow a big trailer you buy a big truck.
An aftermarket controller can be installed. If Toyota include it as part of the package they will charge you 2x as much, and you do not have the choice of which manufacturer you want.

I see your point that it would be nice to have it available as an option, but I don't see it as that big a deal.

most people that do serious towing wont be buying a Taco or any V6 for that matter. so why spend time and effort catering to a very small % of people.

and BTW comparing a Semi to a pickup is like apples and oranges.

And everyone on here always talkes about how great the brakes are and how strong and well built. ..
    .
yet they are not made to tow a 2k lb trailer I have and the factor rates them at 6500 yet you should not even think about towing anythng much with them as they are not built that way.....

Toyota. BUILD A DAMN TRUCK AND ONE THAT WILL DO WHAT YOU SAY IT WILL

No money, all went to truck...
Simple, and for the same reason the new engine isn't increasing torque. The amount of people that purchase a taco and the tow with it is very small.

Also if you need that kind of package, tacos probably not the best truck

Not saying they need to install one just make an area for it that is not in the way and easy to get to if you say you need it and offer a tow rating at 6500 lb.

I have one in my truck. Just needed to move it a few times so it is less in the way and not taking up what little room we have on the inside.

All they need to do is locate a spot that there is a flat or area to inset it.

You tow 6500lbs, keep doing so... let us know the results.

...you don't want to use 100% of your tow rating. Especially consistently

Looked at them. In the 4d the bed is too small and no storage under the seat or behind the seat.

On a for real note, the little cubby to the right of the wheel column comes out to allow room for a brake controller

Never said I towed that much or wanted to tow that much.

as stated 2000 lb is what the trailer weighed in at.

    BTW
why would they rate it for 6500 if you can not tow that?
I don't follow. What good are ratings if you can't do it.

    This is a weird thread.

I just don't get you guys that say that if you need a brake controller - Tacoma's the wrong truck for the job.

It's a perfectly fine truck for pulling a 5000lb or 6000lb load that's balanced on its (dual) axles and equipped with trailer brakes.

Tow a 5000lb trailer on a single axle where you've loaded it with only a hundred pounds of tongue weight and NO trailer brakes - and you'll need to steam clean the driver's seat after you're done. But that's not the truck's fault.

I tried that first but it was too close to th knee and the lever on my controllers is on the bottom. I have a few real nice ones and did not want to get another.
If it was a front lever it may have worked.

2000 lbs is fine for a tacoma, even a I4

    6500 is MAX

Typically you want to tow around 60-70% truck's MAX capacity. Safety and durability sake

    thank you....

yet my trailer rated at 3500 has brakes on it.
but it is only 2000 when riged for hunting.

Wow.... Sit back and breath before you pop a blood vessel man! You can't even THINK of trying to compare what a Tacoma is designed to tow with a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck. The Tacoma is a truck, yes. However the 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks are BUILT to tow, not as a daily driver that occasionally tows, thus they are a totally different breed. The Tacoma is designed as a daily driver that can be used to tow. It is not designed as a work truck. That is not it's purpose. It is a MID sized truck, not a full sized.

A typical 2nd gen weighs in at about 4000 pounds. It is rated at 1100# in the bed, with a total of 6500# MAXIMUM towing. So it is rated at towing up to 162% of it's own weight. Now let's look at the 2014 Dodge Ram 3500. It has a curb weight of 11000#. It's tow rating is...oh wow...11850#. Why, that is just BARELY over it's own weight. So if you want to get technical, the Tacoma is actually built to tow a greater capacity than a 3500! Do some research before you throw out numbers and bash a truck. If you don't like your Tacoma, feel free to trade it in on a gas guzzling 3500.

Oh, as for a brake controller, I am not sure on older models, but the 2014 Tacoma lists as standard equipment a tandem brake control system with sway management. Now I'm not sure exactly how it works, but typically a tandem brake control system will apply electric brake control to a trailer that has it available. Of course I don't have all the details, but it seems that Toyota does have at least SOME form of towing control then.

    1. 2014 RAM 3500
      Pickup truck
    2. Towing capacity: 10,750 to 11,850 lbs
    3. Gross vehicle weight rating: 10,100 to 11,300 lbs
    4. Payload: 3,931 to 4,476 lbs
    5. Curb weight: 5,982 to 7,077 lbs
    6. Fuel tank capacity: 31 to 32 gal

My brother agreed, and bought an F-150 instead. Fits his needs perfectly. He'd love a Tacoma, but his boat trailer weighs a lot more when it's being pulled out of the lake. All his and his kids' cars are Toyotas.

As previously mentioned ad nauseum, it's all personal preference based on need.
