I have a 2015 4 door TRD sport. It rides really rough. I mean beat u up rough on many So. Cal. roads. I thought my 98 ranger rode rough. You can't get the full picture of a vehicle's ride from a test drive. I'm wondering if it is the sport package contributing to this or if all Tacomas ride rough. I know that it is a truck but I was hoping for a smoother ride.

So. Cal. roads suck ass. Only one worse, is the one that I know that's worse, is the one bombed in Iraq. Light truck + shit roads = rough ride.

    I'm assuming stock tires?

    Have you checked the pressures?

Gross over inflation will harshen a ride, and many prep jockeys are known to inflate to the sidewall max pressure as opposed to the proper pressure. And most new owners 'assume' everything is hunky dory from the dealer.

    Always start easy/cheap.

(PS, check your fluid levels as well)

I had a ranger before my Tacoma. Compared to the ranger ur Tacoma should be riding like a Cadillac.

Tire pressure makes a big difference. I pumped mine up to 50 psi last week and didnt like feeling every bump so I put them back down to 37 and like the ride is a lot softer.

Go back to a dealer and ask to test ride one without the TRD package.

Northern roads with Frost heaves, Potholes, patches, etc. are no fun either ....

The truck has the stock Bridgestone Duelers with 34 psi. I rocked the truck from side to side. Not much movement. Pretty tight suspension.

I think stock PSI on TRD Sport is ~29 psi if I'm not mistaken

I've never driven a new Tacoma. Now I kinda want to just to see how they handle off the lot. Mine is 10 years old and I dont have anything to compare it to except the 4 Rangers I had.

Run about 30psi in the tires. Adding a couple of hundred pounds in the bed makes a world of difference. The composite bed is light and ad's to the rough ride.

I agree. This really helps smooth out the ride.

Funny. I'm spending a boat load of money just to stiffen up my suspension. It's a truck.

Agreed on the tire PSI. My truck had 40psi in the tires when I first got it. After the second oil change it was dropped to 36psi and it made a noticeable difference in the ride quality. Didn't notice a change in MPG either.

For stock crappy p rated tires run 29 psi.

The Sport suspension is stiffer than the Off Road and the non-TRD suspensions. I don't find mine rides rough and I have a 2013 TRD Sport on 10 ply tires. Upgrading to 265/70r17 tires will give you a little more rubber between the rim and the road which will also help to eliminate some of the bumps (when you decide its time to upgrade tires)

I took a beating in my first week in my '13 DCSB "Sport" but got used to it after that. Comparing my "Sport" to my '00 OR, she is a luxury ride.

Yep and I run 30 because of my shell. Every time I take it in for service I take a pressure gauge with me to deflate them to correct pressure as they always have too much air and not even consistent on all 4.
I can tell the minute I pull out of their driveway if they are over inflated.
