I've driven them all and I'm not sure what makes the Tacoma better, but it's a blast to drive. The motor and automatic just seems a perfect match! I've had it 5 years and it still drive as good as the day I bought it. No rattles or squeaks. The interior looks brand new which is a sign of the quality of the materials used.

I'm looking forward to driving the 2016 Tacoma, but the 2nd Gen is hard to beat in my opinion.:)

Dude, it's a tin can attached to a vague auto n noisy V6, it drives like any other pickup truck. I'm not exactly out looking for twisties w it. Maybe I'm missing something here?

I personally love mine as well. It has its minor squeaks and rattles, but I love it. Especially after getting a 6 speed laat year this thing is perfect.

The auto transmission sucks (first auto), but I do love my truck. I've had 5, and not one has ever given me any trouble, or worked my OCD. And they are sexy as hell for a truck. Way more personality than any other truck IMO. For these reasons, I am a Taco fanboy.

Didn't the auto transmission 'suck' when you test drove it? Why did you buy it?

The same reason you buy a hammer. It's a tool to get the job done, dependably.

Didn't ask why he bought the truck, but why'd he buy it with the auto tranny that 'sucked'.

A '14 6MT in SW TRD sport pack was not an option.

Because it does suck, let's be real here. Have you tried using it to merge onto a highway? Our transmissions are far from refined. But it gets the job done.

Stumbled upon this thread. Interesting, as I was driving home tonight, the thought crossed my mind of how much I love driving this truck.
They aren't perfect trucks, but better than most.
I agree with you, Jim. Enjoy.
Don't pay attention to those who only have complaints.

    Ok...

Love my auto. Maybe it'll grow on you. I said I'd never get an auto Jeep, but have a 2003 TJ that I've grown to like.

the interior sucks balls on these things. water stains the seats, my dash got permanent scratches in it after my hiking day pack rubbed against it within a week of owning it!

For real. I love my Taco, but the transmission is slushy mush. Far from refined is generous.

Sucks to you. I have no issues with it, merging on the highway or not. To be real here, it's just your opinion.

Back to the original question - still love to drive it every time I get in it.

They're not perfect. You can always find flaws, but used Tacomas are damned expensive for a reason.
