Good quality fog lights, need a recommendation

I'm not much of a light guy so I was wondering if you guys can help recommend me a pair of quality fog lights that actually work well in the fog.

I currently have a pair of Rigid D- series pod lights that does nothing in the fog. I'm all ears, thanks!

 

maybe some lightforces with yellow lens covers?
Strikers are small'ish

 

Have you tried putting yellow filters on them? That would be what I would try first.

That idea did crossed my mind, but one of the Rigids have a moisture issue so I figure it might be a good time to just get something new.

No moisture issues when I had a set of genesis, they have gortex breathers.

 

No offense to other LED companies because there are some very good ones out there, but everyone is competing against Rigid. There quality and warranty really is the top, of very near top, of the industry. You likely have warranty left on your lights unless you took them apart. Get those suckers exchanged and put some filters on them before you waste money on another LED manufacturers Rigid D-series knockoffs.

If you do decide to go to a bigger light bar that's a different story. If I were you then I'd check out the dual mode (white and yellow LED's) light's available in the larger light bars you can mount behind the up or lower grill of your truck. Rigid and Lifetime LED are two companies I've had good luck with. There are other good ones too, I just don't have any good experience with them to give you a recommendation. Someone else here might.

You really need some bigger lights to have an effective output to penetrate when using fog lights. Those little ones won't do shit all. I have some rigid srq ambers and they look cool, but cannot really be used for real world situations. Take a look at these led cannons. $230, with some amber covers for $10.

I'm hopefully going to get my pair installed soon, and follow up with a full write-up/review. And try to create enough dust to show penetration on them with the amber covers. But I don't think I'll ever get a chance to try them in fog, being in the az valley. On rare occasions we do get some though. Just recently actually, but I doubt we will get that until next winter season now probly.

 

What beam pattern would you go with for fog lights? They offer a flood pattern and a spot but I'm not sure what would be best for fog replacements.

 

It depends, do you want to see the deer in the ditch or the car with no lights ahead of you in the fog?

Floods light up the ditch which is great for animals. The spots have better range for anything that's on the road but not visible until it reflects some of your light. IMO both light styles have applications and lots of light bars are a combination of both.

 

These would just be replacements for my fog lights. I should be getting my plate bumper in the next couple weeks (hopefully) and I'll be putting a light bar on that, but I'll also be replacing the fogs, so in that case it would be better to just go with the floods for fogs and then get a spot for the light bar, yes?

 

Well, I tested my led cannons a few nights ago with the amber covers. Now, are you looking to use them as actual fog lights? Or just replacements (extra lighting) for your current fog lights?

But, when I tested them, the flood amber covers really diffused the light a lot and didn't put out very much light. I will be getting some clear spot amber covers eventually and test those out. I think you might wanna look into something else for fogs. Again I can't really tell yet how well these cannons will do in foggy/dusty conditions. I'm starting to think that the amber covers are solely useful for dust, and not fog. I just got my cannons all installed. Gonna go drive around and see how well they do.

Also, regarding beam patterns, I always suggest getting either a combo led bar, or pure flood. Because most bars really won't throw very far unless you've got a really expensive model like vision x, or rigid, that is all spot. Then get some spot lights in place of your fogs such as the cannons. But either or works. You could get a slot led bar, with some flood fogs. Whatever your preference of looks is. But most of my bars are flood, or combo, and I've got a very nice spread of light with not hot spots. I just wanted a bit nsore range down road therefore I got the cannons... I think I seriously outdid it and now have way too many lights. Lol.

 

I couldn't ever find any! Yeah I had to bug him over and over. Driving around and I'm not seeing a dramatic increase in down range lighting with these. Granted I have all my lights wired together to high beams so my bars, even the roof bar, overpowers these things. And I just looked on his site again and it appears he removed them! Hmm. But yeah I'll have to wire these separately alone and do some testing.

 

You can, but they use a epistar or cheaper led, don't have a 3 year warranty and aren't assembled by me with USA luminus led chips. The housings come from overseas so there are probably 1000 versions of these. Buy what you like.

They are all based on the vision x light, mine use the same led but theirs shoot at least 120ft further. Better control board I guess. They also cost 380 a pair.

Just got home a bit ago. And I CAN tell a difference. Definitely like these for sure! These are great, but I think I need the bigger ones! heh. My bars are the 10watt led type, so they throw pretty far as is, and I think these are about the same range. So basically added more light to my pre-existing spread. But I'll be working on these next week probly and getting them wired for testing (pictures) purposes. I just wanted to get them mounted and wired in, which took half the day to complete, and so far I like! Those darn CBI ditch mounts were harder to put in than I thought. But I got em, as well as the wiring which took a while too.

 

That's my plan is to offer them with free cbi mounts, I think it's the best spot for them. Do you wanna try the new 6" ones?

 

In super bad snow storms I run with just my light force 140's on. They're mounted low and light up wayyyy more of the road than they do the flying snow and makes driving a thousand times easier.

Unfortunately, I don't expect amber covers to help with fog/snow. Maybe dust, which is good for me, getting more haboobs than fog out here. Certainly no snow though, lol.
