Waterproof Fuse and Relay Boxes - RFRM (10 relay) & RTMR (5 Relay) no Blue Sea/ SPOD

Yes, I did drill a hole for mine. I was and am going a different direction than the rest of you though. My plan is for a bulkhead connector. Was it hard? No. Protection? right now, just the 3m Windshield putty. I do not recommend everyone do the drilling.

I recommend that you and everyone else use the grommet already there. Just cut the nipple off, use your antennae and then tape the harness to it as I mentioned on the previous page. Tried and true method. Works like a charm and you are not compromising the factory harness or firewall.

 

In the market for a bunch of powered accessories, but I have questions (sorry, but I am ignorant in the ways of switching/relaying, etc!)

1. If I want to power a winch, driving lights (hood mounted D2's and a 20" light bar), fog lights, dust lights, rock lights, onboard air, and an inverter to have 110v power in a roof top tent (this inverter idea may possibly be scrapped), will the RFRM be required, or could I get by with a RTMR?

2. Would the wiring for this relay/fuseblock solution be performed by you so all I would need to do is mount it under the hood and connect the leads to the switches, grounds and accessories? (*I do not have all the accessories mentioned above, but would be acquiring them one or two at a time, and would like to simply connect them up at a later date.)

3. Would the OEM alternator/battery suffice for all the accessories being run at the same time with the engine idling (I obviously wouldn't be running everything all at once, but would like the capability to)? If not, what upgrades are recommended to allow for this provision?

1. & 3. Small box would be fine. However, I would look at the specs of your Inverter. Might be a direct to battery installation. Winch too. Direct to battery, now if you wanted in cab winch controls, all you would do is use a fused power source.

If you plan on using the inverter and the rest of the components with the vehicle off. The way I would wire it would be to use the rear of the box as a junction and connect the inverter to the + stud form the battery.

Now this is where I would recommend getting that low voltage cutoff mentioned a couple pages back. with your truck off, this would stop the battery from being drained so much that you wouldn't be able to start the truck. Also being a breaker, it would stop you from exceding the load of the box and accessories. Again Protecting you.


2. yes - just connect up the accessory and the switch.

I drilled my firewall. I ended up using one of the Daystar firewall boots to insulate it. I'll try to get a pic later today. This is what I used....

Where can I get the metal ends that connect to the box. I want to add wires to use the normally closed side of the relay as well as the normally open side. Thank you.

Yep hopefully installing this weekend. I am sending the old one out Monday.
Orange, yellow, blue, green and gray. If you have them with a strip of some color going down them that would be awesome. If not no worries. I will label it properly.

I got my panel and the quick disconnects in the mail today from Skygear. The panel looks beyond awesome smooth and clean. Fits the fuse block perfectly. The quick disconnects for the switches look amazing, clean work and makes installing so much easier.

Perfection always takes time. What's the best way to drill the holes for the panel?

 

Measure center to center for the stock holes. Transfer that measurement to the plate. Then drill OVERSIZED holes to allow for adjustment.

I like to use a center punch or a nail to start the hole process. then use a small bit to get the hole. After that work my way up to the hole size I want. OR use a UNI BIT like I do.
