I bought the cruise control switch and brake light switch from Toyota. I started with the cruise control switch, and when it was installed I tried it and it worked with no other additions. Took it for a test drive and worked perfectly. Found the write up here, but it was for a 2003 manual transmission, but the switch was the correct part number.

Are you saying the truck already had cruise control, but had no way to engage it?

2003 and 2004 models have electronic throttle control and the cruise control is built in. They don't have the separate cruise control module that sits behind the air intake box that the earlier models have.

Yes, no switch on the steering wheel on mine, everything else was there.

My 03 has it, but it's not very good. It generally keeps me +/- 10 MPH of the set speed.

This is all that I needed for my 2004 PreRunner Automatic:

    Speed Switch Assembly: 84630-0C010
    And 3 screws needed are:

#10 x 3/4" pan head for the innermost screw going thru the aluminum of the steering wheel
#10 x 1/2" pan head for the two outermost screws just going thru the plastic of the switch

I also used a 1 1/8" carbide hole saw for my hole in the steering wheel trim, was a snug fit though.

Agreed - mine is pretty bad too, especially in any kind of hilly terrain. Might be better in a manual but the auto is always shifting at the wrong time/overshooting the set speed as it try's to catch back up, etc. The cruise in the '06 I had for a few years wasn't much better.

my 03 has a cable operated throttle and no module for cruse.

You sure you have an '03? One way to tell is that ABS became standard that year. Not sure if you removed yours or came without.

I am pretty sure it is an 03 the title says that, the vin says it, and I am pretty sure the door sticker says it. It does not have ABS either. It is a manual if that makes any difference. someone said that did at one time.

What is the date of manufacture? It maybe an early 03, early to use the 02 throttle body.

    Hmmm. That is totally odd.

Maybe what he said. Came off the line very early. What's the month and year of mfg on the door sticker?

Not sure being a manual makes a difference. Mine is and I have ABS and the ETCS. Mine came off the line in Dec of 2012 though. 12 years old. Still amazes me.

I have a 2004 2.7l 5 speed, will the speed switch assembly work for my manual trans? Or do I need additional parts?

Really want to add cruise to my Tacoma as I already put 10k on in the last 2-3 months.
