Ok, here's the problem. I have the sudden urge to put a high-flow muffler on my truck. I do not want something loud or "ricey", but I could live with a throaty sound. What I do want is the high flow for both efficiency and power.

Here is the problem. My wife isn't going to go for it. Ah, but I have a plan... I can bust a hole in my current muffler and tell her that I have to replace it. In the mean time, it will be loud and "high flow" until the time that she gives in. I will tell her that I hit something on the road and it popped up into my muffler.

All of this I have figured out. ;)

Question is: How do you bust a hole in you current muffler without tearing up the rest of your truck?

To those who fear my reputation is failing, I probably won't actually do this, but when my wife and I get into a fight I like to play out scenarios in my head to make myself feel better. Besides, I like sharing my bad ideas. :p

Any recommendations as to "where" to put the hole? (front, back, bottom, side, etc...)

Im not sure I feel good about the ethics involved in this thread, But instaed of makeing a story, just tell her you want a new muffler to improve the eficiency of the engine. Explain to her that it would pay for itself in the increased mpg. (it may take a few years to actually start to see a saveings), but I think this may be a better approach.

Don't ask her in the first place. Its easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission. Worked for me buying the truck.

Call it "preventative maintenance." The muffler's bound to go out sometime...you may as well replace it now.

If you put a hole in it, make sure you cover it in dirt, so it wont show any marks..... you can also bent it with a hammer....

Well, I don't have to do anything now...

I decided to take a shortcut to avoid some traffic this morning - true PreRunner style. My truck was pretty steady, but you could feel the wheels bouncing all over the place. As I came up over a small ridge, I hit something. I didn't even see it, and as I had people behind me I wasn't going to stop. As I hit it all I heard was -

    :burnrubber: BOOM!!! WAAAAAAAAAwWAAAAAAAAwWAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......

I will try to take some pictures this afternoon.

To answer your questions, I probably wouldn't have gone through with this. My wife was ticking me off the other day (saying we didn't have any money after she just spent a bunch of it). So, I imagined up a way to get back at her, but we reconciled without incident. I really don't care if I had gotten a new muffler or not, but now I can. :)

just a hammmer, get under there and start slamming on it.

Or thieves - someone stole my muffler.

The bearing went out on the muffler??

Recalled by Yota, got a new one.

Hit something like a piece of firewood in the road, and it jumped up and took out the muffler.

or does your wife read this posts and your screwed?

You don't like your 40?!?! I thought that was one of the quieter ones? I was looking at that or possibly a 50 series SUV type... I want something quiet, but high flow.

Thats how you get to replace things!
High flow and quiet is not going to eaqual a flowmaster. They are a Baffled muffler and in many cases actually LOWER h.p. from stock. The Dynomax super turbo muffler flows better than stock, and is on the quiet side of the spectrum. :)
