Excellent, I'm flattered! Clearly you had some HIGHLY IMPORTANT TECHNICAL AUTOMOTIVE INFORMATION to share - nice work. Kinda like the majority of this thread has been, huh? ALL of it is filled with really important Tacoma talk, right?

Still waiting...ARGH! Now I'm dying to have a drink, as is my husband - it's his birthday for pete's sake! AND it's even 5pm on the west coast now too! But no drinking til we hear what's up, in hopes still of picking up tonight. Getting nervous though. Our mechanic did say he had a job somewhere away from home today, and planned to go to it in Taco to be able to check on her periodically. Trying to tell myself the job ran long, that's all it is........right guys?

EDIT - Yes Mod, DEFINITELY real butter. Not messing around over here. We take our pastries QUITE seriously. In all seriousness, my dream is to open a bakery, but that requires gobs of start up money and lots of luck to actually be successful. So instead, my husband, neighbors, family, friends, and now TW buddies suffer through eating all the stuff I make :)

EDIT #2: Husband's downloading 4 billion individual files of our FSM off that site we signed up for, our subscription ends at midnight. His eyeballs are ready to fall out from opening all those damn files. Not exactly how we'd planned to spend his birthday - me pacing around staring at my phone, him clicking the mouse 12 trillion times. Good grief, we really ARE obsessed with this truck, aren't we?????

EDIT #3: Wait, don't answer that. My mental state is too fragile to hear any honest answers to that at the moment....:D

EDIT #4: Thinking about calling him..........getting worried now.....

EDIT #5: Left him a message just now. Really scared something is wrong, as he doesn't strike me as someone that would just blow it off.

Koditten, I did run out and grab a bottle of J & B - first time trying it, going purely on your recommendation. Never met a whiskey we didn't like though![IMG]

Wow, that's smooth! Mixing with gingerale, yum!

Glad all is well, finally, with the taco. My neighbor had a fuel pump fail in his 87 Land Cruiser around X-Mas, the pump was cheap, finding a replacement tank due to rust was not!

If we are now down to discussing whiskey and grades of butter, it means that vehicle issues have been laid to rest. But let me add in what is locally available here: We are only a few hours from bourbon country, a nice half day ride on the motorcycle will get us to center of Bourbon Trail. We stopped in at a local liquor store yesterday to find they had a display set up in the middle of the store of three complete single barrels of buffalo trace, makers mark and I think American Eagle. I came home with a fifth of barrel #54, Buffalo Trace. So not only is it a single barrel bourbon, but a barrel hand selected by the store.

And for our morning biscuits, I will be using hand made, local Amish butter...readily available at the Amish run deli in town.

We had a good snow yesterday, after two days of heavy rain. The ground is now wet, hard frozen with layer of snow on top. If the wind is less that 10 mph, I will burn a massive bonfire/brushpile, built after a terrible early November snow storm. I think a ground fire under these conditions is highly unlikely.

Knuckle, you should know me well enough by now to trust that you guys would know the second I knew - I wouldn't leave my TW buddies in suspense like that! You guys have been too good to me for that......

So, the answer is no. :(

I left our mechanic a message ~7pm last night, and no response so far. It's pretty obvious either the pump didn't fix it or he wrecked our truck, and either way, he's agonizing now over how to explain either scenario to the nice neighbors of his buddy who are seriously obsessed with their truck.

Thinking seriously about heading over to the new mechanic with the cheesecake and caramel sauce I made for him. Yes, I realize that would definitely look pretty staulkerish, and lots of you will say, NO WAY, LET HIM WORK, DON'T DO IT! But honestly, I'll be damned if I let this cheesecake sit here and spoil, plus it's hard enough to keep opening the fridge and seeing it, and resist the temptation to grab a fork, especially in the weak mental state we're in! Plus, now I just NEED TO KNOW the truck didn't get wrecked. Clearly, we'd be in a whole different ball game if that happened, so at least then I could stop wasting time googling EVAP systems and shit, and start moving forward on that path. And yes, it would f'ing suck if the pump didn't fix it and that's why he's not calling, but I'm OK with that......I had doubts all along about it being the culprit, and I'm pretty confident that if that's the case, this guy will do whatever it takes to make it right.

Whatdya think guys, still too staulkerish despite everything I just said? In the meantime, I think I'll PM our neighbor and see if he's heard anything......I have this feeling that he might know what's up, and neither of them wants to be the bearer of bad news. But like I said, I can cope with whatever it is; it's the agony of not knowing that is worst.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, when he called us Fri evening, he DID SAY he was going to call us Sat afternoon to pick up, he just wanted to keep it one more night, and use it to get around Saturday to be certain the pump was the fix. And no word yet, even after leaving a message.

Actually, we do have our fave Waylon CD in there, and I was picturing that dude driving Taco and jamming out to it. He definitely strikes me as someone who would appreciate Waylon more than the engine guys - they were more Metallica types. Don't get me wrong, all music is good - to each his own, but nothing wrong with appreciating folks who share your musical preferences. WAYLON FOREVER!!!!!!

Would it break forum rules to upload a fave Waylon song on the thread? I am having a serious I LOVE WAYLON moment right now..........

Wait, Mod, are you saying this is what the Taco's doing right now? That's it, Taco is getting a General Lee paint job if we ever get her back........

"He is going to give you a call shortly after he has some coffee. He fell asleep too early last night and slept like crap because if it. He says after the fuel pump install it is still raking too long to start so, he is going to look at the injectors to see if one of them is leaking by."

Do you guys think that stripped bolt could be the problem? Or that the 2 new injectors were garbage (used or reman'd or something), or the place our engine mechanic used to clean/test them did a crap job. Or, it has nothing to do with the injectors or the bolt.

Anyone think it could be our coil packs? Remember, when we let the truck warm up to the point that the IAT was within the range of what it needed to be to produce shit starts, they all 3 tested in excess of spec, at 1.3 (top range of spec when truck is hot is 1.23). But then it's weird that they'd all test identically out of spec.

Should we just have him replace the entire fuel rails that the injectors attach to? That would solve the stripped bolt thing also, right?

Good grief, it's pretty obvious we'll easily make it to 1000, and likely go well beyond it.......

OK, he said he's thinking leaky injector because he tried holding the throttle open during a typical hard start time, and it started right up. Meaning, that extra air would correct the A/F ratio mix if fuel was dripping from an injector. I told him the engine mechanic couldn't remember which injectors were faulty when all were cleaned/tested, but he "thought" it was 3 and 5, and surely 3 had to be one of them, since hole in piston was at 3. He asked if they replaced the two with new ones or rebuilt/used, and I told him the option was never given to us, but the "new" ones were only $60, so I'm guessing from the cost research I've done that they were not actually NEW. Just a bit annoyed that we were never given that option, and will be more than a bit annoyed if that winds up being the issue. He's going to start pulling the injectors and go from there.

He did say he checked those 2 items in the FSM with the circuit stuff for the starter and fuel pump, and is confident neither of those are the problem.

I asked him if it was possible this could all be due to a ground wire issue or something equally silly, and he said no, because the truck would be doing all sorts of weird stuff if it was that ground wire.

Husband asked him if it could be that the timing was set wrong during the engine swap/new timing belt install, or if the coil packs testing in excess of spec when IAT was in the hard start range could be the problem, and he said nope, we'd get a CEL if either was it. We also asked if our TP sensor could be bad, and he said nope, it's working fine.

He's going to pull the fuel rails with the injectors on them, then pressurize the system, and said if it is a leaky injector, he'll be able to see it right away, because it will drip.

What are the OEM injectors for our truck guys? Anyone have any pointers on where to get them, BRAND NEW, for the best price?

I still LOVE THIS GUY - he said he does think the pump reduced the crank time, but he's "just not happy giving someone their truck back until the problem is 100% fixed." Told him we're glad about the new pump, even if it didn't fix the problem, because I've been told it's good PM at this mileage anyway, and you are walking (quoting DP) if it fails - not something we want to toy with. Plus, it will be good to know fuel system is brand new head to toe. Another reason I am annoyed we were not given the option for brand new vs. rebuilt injectors the first time around. And were shot down by that same person when I asked about replacing all injectors with the ones Keakar suggested.

PS, we're delivering the cheesecake to him in a couple of hours, just wanted to let you guys know cuz I'm sure that was the burning question in your minds at this point - WHAT ABOUT THE CHEESECAKE?!?!?!??![IMG]

Guys (Keakar), are these the injectors that were mentioned? Looks like they are brand new Bosch 4 hole spray pattern from what I can tell, for $115 each. 6 of them would add up quite fast, but it's also scary to replace only 1 (if one is found to be leaking), considering all the details of how we've arrived at where we are now......

    Anybody?

Does what the mechanic said make sense to you guys?

Any opinions on the injector replacement stuff?

Guys, please don't ditch us now.

If anyone has input on whether what the mechanic said sounds logical, please tell me your thoughts. It did to me, but I am new to this stuff so I don't know. And if anyone has opinions regarding the injector topic, please share them.

EDIT: Husband is calling local stores to find out what injector options they have; I called my buddy Matt to run all this by him (got his voice mail); about to take the cheesecake over there.

Please, if anyone has thoughts, share them. We need some support from our TW dudes right now!

EDIT: R.A. now says they can't get the Bosch I linked in earlier post. None of the parts stores can either. FUCK! So sick of this. HELP!

It is absolutely logical but with caveats. There is a Toyota spec for allowable "drip" or leak from an injector at a given pressure. I'll dig it up.

    The other is tougher.
You have 6 injectors for 6 cylinders. If 1 or 2 injectors were leaking one could assume the other 4 injector/cylinders would produce at the least a "trying to start" condition.

The fact that the open throttle appears to help is definitely an indication of a rich or flooded condition. Why, is his job to find out. The only way to check the injectors will be testing along the lines of what he described.

One drop or less in 12 seconds at normal fuel pressure. (from each injector)

Wow. Can't believe this. Just got back from his house, and he had everything opened up and demonstrated that we also have a FAULTY FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. THAT IS BRAND NEW DENSO. And he saw that #6 injector is leaking. He's going to take all 6 injectors to his guy tomorrow, and we're fuel pressure regulator shopping now. He also showed us how dirty everything was left underneath the plenum. Wow. In shock right now. He also showed us a hose that carries coolant that has cracks in it - that was simply reinstalled with our new $6K engine. UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE.
