Said he still had his Snap On tool thingy that pressurizes the system hooked up and going when he was showing us the FPR, so now he thinks it's fine and could just be the leaky injector situation.

DP, thank you for hanging in there with us/giving input. We are now quite excited to skip FPR shopping, and also quite excited to avoid taking up a faulty FPR w/the engine guys.

Funny, I just mentioned a false alarm - there's a new concept to this thread, huh?[IMG]

We caught him off guard though when we showed up there. He was in the midst of checking out the injectors and FPR when we pulled in, so to his credit I think he didn't have ample time to actually think through what he was seeing, and thought he was onto something as we pulled in, and was excited to share it with us, sort of like I do on here. Post what we find out immediately, then after the fact find out it was a false alarm. So I don't blame the guy at all for that, and am grateful that he's man enough to call us immediately when he realized his mistake and admit it/apologize.

Say what? It's OK to say something to the effect of "I'm not really sure, but it sounded good".;) If you have any details I would really like to know exactly what he did or thought.

His tool was pressurizing the system when we arrived - he had it hooked into the DLC3 thing I think, inside the cab, just below and to the right of the steering wheel. The FPR was making a hissing noise. I think he didn't realize he still had the tool hooked up/pressurizing the system, so he was thinking "it shouldn't be making that hissing noise" - that seems logical, right?

Even if this guy isn't perfect and makes an occasional "oops" I am still sticking with him, mostly because he seems very honest, very interested in saving us money, and very committed to completing the job regardless of any hiccups along the way, which are all things I can't necessarily say about the other guys. Plus, what choice do we have at this point? If we doubt him, that means going elsewhere, or cutting our losses when it seems we could be close to the end time and moneywise. And I'm not doing either of those now.

When he had that thing hooked up and pressurizing the system, causing the FPR to make the hissing noise, my husband heard the pump making a noise - can't really describe said noise, other than it was obvious it's not supposed to be one that's heard, kind of a whining noise, like it's trying to pump. So husband said, wait, what does this mean in relation to the tool pressurizing the system and the FPR noise? I think that might be when the mechanic realized his goof.

By the way, I'm starting early on the J & B today. Was just pouring one when he called, to gear myself up for yet another long fun session of fuel parts shopping. Now that I don't have to do the shopping, I figure, hell, it's already poured, why not watch some Dukes of Hazzard reruns, drink some J & B, and think about something besides cracked hoses, sloppy engine swap work, and who has the best prices on fuel system components. So that's the mission now.

DP, did that all add up to you as far as the questions you had on the FPR stuff?

EDIT: My assumption is the tool was pressurizing our entire fuel system, so the pump was trying to supply fuel to the regulator, which was making a hissing noise (as it should have been) - then when he realized oops, of course it's hissing because my tool is providing pressure to it, yada yada yada. Right?

Yes, with a little "filling in the blanks":D on my part your description was fine. No probs with his methods so far, just keeping an eye on things.

Thanks DP! We need all the "keeping an eye on things" we can get, so your continued input/support is MUCH appreciated.

Everyone, part of why I keep going with this thread is in hopes that others who find themselves in the same/similar miserable situation, perhaps they can learn from what we have been and continue to go through.

But it's much appreciated when people don't kick us when we're down with "I told ya so's." Cuz believe it or not, we are real people and we are living this misery every day. It's not just some made up story on the internet. It is our lives.

Popcorn watchers, when we're down, even just a simple, "that sucks, good luck, wishing you the best" helps A LOT. Even when you don't know what the answer is, a post like that is helpful as we continue down this miserable road.

Only part I read was "starting on the J & B a bit early".

Glad you are still keeping your "spirits" up:).

Thanks K! :) We are definitely accomplishing that task! Look, I can even still type in spite of that! :)
EDIT: That may not be the case in a few hours from now, since we did spring for the handle of J&B..........

Leftover lasagna, buttery bread, large icy glasses of J&B, and Dukes reruns now! taking a break from this bs tonight, finally

Between pump and regulator. Damn injectors. To get a good matched set, you have to do them yourselves or have a buddy who does them. Sad. Have rebuilt injectors before, compared them on the flow rate machine, all that. Sadly, those tools have been long gone. A extra simple item for electronic gas injectors,,but it has to be perfect.

One things for sure,,your getting to the no stone left unturned point. I see light on the horizon again.

Promise no ditching! Just been really busy with work and the shop. I think me and another guy had mentioned a LONG time back about possible injectors leaking down.....

As for replacing them, I wouldn't pay $115 each when you can get flow balanced ones for a LOT less. Here is a set of factory flow rate matched injectors for $150 for a SET. And here is a set of 550cc Performance flow rate injectors for $260 for a set. When you figure on buying 2 injectors at $115 each, you can see how just $150 for a matched flow rate set at $150 is a much better deal.

Personally I wouldn't suggest buying ANYTHING from Partsgeek. I initially was going to use them as a parts supplier a while back and had NOTHING but problems ordering and getting things. Many times they would send the wrong part, then demand that I pay return shipping, and refused to ship the right part until AFTER they received the incorrectly shipped part back. Horrible customer service.

    http://docinjector.com/

This is where he's taking our injectors today to be tested. Not sure I want that though, thinking I just want brand new ones, might call and talk to him more. My buddy Matt said he sent his to this place:http://www.okinjectors.com/ and they were awesome. He said they told him they use some super expensive chemical to clean them, whereas lots of places use some crappy garbage cheap stuff, and that if crap stuff is used, it could destroy your injectors beyond the point of saving - that they might work for a few months, but eventually will be toast. So naturally I'm worried the engine guys sent them somewhere that uses the crap stuff (or else why is #6 leaking now?) - so I'm scared that even the place the mechanic is using and trusts a lot, what if they aren't able to identify whether the crap chemical was used on them just recently, and that they are therefore toast?

Going to call that place my buddy mentioned and see if I can get more details on what they meant, and look at the links you shared Bama (THANK YOU!). Also going to call local dealer, just cuz I like having pricing heart attacks, to see what kind of outrageous number they quote on new ones. And there's one local store that was closed yesterday, going to call them too.
