Please excuse my poor use of terminology. I've brought this up to the service dept at my dealership several times to no avail.

After I stop at a sign or a light, when I begin to accelerate there is a "slipping" or "shifting" feeling in the truck. It occasionally occurs AFTER I stop as well in a way that isn't driven by momentum(does that mean it's the transmission?).

I can't reliably replicate it either although it seems like it happens more often before I've driven very much that day.

    Appreciate any help. Thanks!

may be axle wrap. try tightening the u-bolts on your leaf packs. if that doesn't work try a transmission flush.

also try the search function, usually your questions have been asked/answered before.

the tacoma driveshaft just loves to make interesting vibes and noises from my experience.

My truck does the same thing. Sometimes when I let go of the break or compress the break I can hear spring noise. For example: say you're holding a spring and you bend it and let it go and it makes that weird noise.

Whatever you do dont flush your tranny. Drain and refill only. There can be sediment you dont want to disturb.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

I took it into the dealer again, told them what I found out on the forums. They said they once paid attention to forums but people post such crazy stuff that they stopped. I inquired about the axle wrap, they explained to me what an axle wrap is and why that wouldn't be the problem. I asked them "so what do I do?" and they said that if I couldn't reproduce the phenomenon with them in the truck, there wasn't anything they could do. Is it just me, or are these guys totally inept?

I had received a notice for a rear leaf spring recall awhile ago. They don't have the part yet so replacing isn't an option yet, but I had them look into anything I might notice while driving the truck that is associated with the recall. The thud and "shifting" feeling was described in the details of the recall as something having to do with the defective part. Hopefully replacing the rear leaf spring will fix it, I will be back to update once the part is replaced.

I'm coming up on 60k miles, can anyone tell me how I might find a knowledgeable and trustworthy mechanic in my area(Los Angeles)? These guys at the dealership are awful. Thanks.

I have it too. I was told it was axle wrap..with me it only happens when I'm decelerating from high speed.

This makes me think of a discussion I thought I remembered about if the transmission downshifts to 1st when stopped and if it pushes causing a bit of a jolt, I can't find any threads on it though.

I have this time to time, I'm stopped, have been stopped for 3-5 seconds and then I feel it want to push again while I'm still holding the brake.

OP - your location is LA - there must be 100 dealers in your area. If you have warranty time left go to another dealer. You do not have to go to the dealer you bought the truck from.

That's their standard operation though, If they can't recreate it they can't do anything about it. Same as the dealerships here in Michigan.
