I have a family member who has the creme dela creme of jeep commanders. It's an 08 with 150k on the clock. It's a pos. dash components have broken free of the dash, fake wood veneer inside is warping and curling, roof leak, push button start problems, fake leather seats splitting...... JEEP only for the easily amused.

Wow, impressive pics there. We do more hardcore offroading in a 1999 Landcruiser with 155k miles that's stock. No issues with that car and we regularly pull out Heeps and other cars too. Trail rated my ass, Jeeps are garbage.

Jeeps are Heeps. The 4-Runner can take it in a knife fight, and haul more gear and people around while doing it.

We'll have to see in 5 years and the cost of ownership. Recalls. Sunroof leaks. Jeeps are nice but everyone I've known w a GC has had issues as it gets close to 100k miles

I do agree that Jeeps interiors are nice. My friend has a Cherokee Trailhawk and the interior is plush. Nice comfy leather seats and a big ass touch screen. I wouldn't drive it through a puddle though. 40k miles and it's had a number of CEL's and odd things happen like the interior lights not working one day or the rear view mirror falling off. Just little odd things like that. If my GF wanted a crossover type car like a Subaru crosstek, forester or something I'd point her in that direction but we love 4runners way too much.

Jeeps are built cheap, made cheap and bought cheap. Chrysler will never get their act together and build quality products. They are always last in quality and most problems per 100 vehicles. Jeeps are exciting when they work, but they never work.
PS Initial quality is bullshit. I know some fanboys will point it out :)

The Jeep won in an offroad competition because its an actual offroad oriented vehicle and not a sticker package with colored shocks and (kinda) AT tires.

I don't quite agree with your assessment. At least, when I bought mine, only off-roading difference between the two was IFS vs solid axle. They each have their merits in off-roading.

I will say, my Tacoma has seen the same type of wheeling as the XJ I owned, for a longer period, done just as well and has been far more reliable.

Sorry if that sounded like an insult. It wasn't. Just not a real way of comparing an off-road package family SUV vs a purpose built off-roader in an off-road situation. For the record, I'm only talking about the FourRunner vs the Rubicon in the posted article. Not about Toyotas vs Jeeps in general.

Very much agree. Off the car lot, a Jeep will out perform all day.
It's a harsh reality for some Tacoma owners.

perform, sure. All day, naw. Too much breaks on them. Harsh reality for Jeep owners.

When I bought mine, the Rubicons only came with a rear locker. The Tacomas matched up except for the IFS. I decided that Toyota reliability was worth giving up the IFS and all the weird ass manufacturing quirks.

One of the things that got me to get a Jeep, was that both my cousins have over 120k miles on their Wranglers (2006, 2008), and have had nothing go wrong, cept the radio in one, at 119k miles. IN the 22 months Ive had mine, Ive had less issues with it, than I did with the Tacoma. I think Toyota has dropped in quality during the production of the second gens, while other manufactures have been increasing their quality. Don't get me wrong, as I think the Tacoma is the best midsize truck out, but Im not blind to see all the issues folks, and myself, have had with them.

And I will admit that my statistical sample size is small. I owned a '94 XJ. Loved the 4.0 and the SFA but everything else broke on it and every repair was painful. It left me a little bitter and cynical if you can't tell. ;)

I really don't know about improved reliability. I keep getting asked by peeps at work on why their jeep is not working right, from 2003 up to 2013.

However, if they brought back the 4.0 and the 2 dr long wheelbase and had demonstrated reliability, I'd be sorely tempted.
