    Hello everyone,

I am looking to buy my first Tacoma but have had a real hard time with dealerships.

I was looking at a 2010 4x2 (..would really like a 4x4), with a tow package, TRD Sport (not sure about JBL), 4 DR - Double Cab, Shortbed, automatic, V6

The dealer has it priced at $29888, and was only will to reduce the price by 1200. SO really after tax, tag and title, it is nothing.

Anyone know the invoice price, or what a good amount I could ask for? I am new to this so I do not know how to really "work" a dealer.

I have checked Edmunds but wanted to get a real-world perspective.

    Thanks for the help!

    Jason

at a $29k sticker, the factory invoice is around $26.7k.

a good price would be $27.8k.

FYI, they arent budging much on the 2010's.

the stealership is not gonna budge much on the newly released 2010's, you are better off finding an 09' you can talk them down more

yup, and they will offer a 3.9% interest rate on the 2009's.
on the 2010's, you will be lucky to get 6.9%

not to many, love it the way it is
Contact the dealers in your area over the internet. Tell them what you want and what you are willing to pay and leave the ball in their court. Maybe consider a new 09 if you can find one. I looked at used trucks when I bought mine but they were hardly less expensive than a brand new one so ended up buying new, Tacoma's hold the value very well

if you times .87 to the sticker price this is a good deal. if you times .85 to the sticker then that is probably as low as they will ever go and that probably isn't happening at this time

If you are a member of a credit uniion, talk to them. Many in my area will find a car for you, and save a few bucks also.

Good Luck, and Welcome to TW

I use to sell Toyotas at a local dealership. I also sold Chevys at another. Bad economy, lack of jobs, massive competition. Pick the truck you want and options, go to edmonds.com and get a good idea of the invoice price. Contact your local dealers ( be willing to travel a little ), in person or email and tell them you are willing to make the deal for invoice . Ask to see it if in person. Stick to your guns. One of them will do it. Its a quick mini commission with hardly no time spent for the salesman and for the GM, he's moving steel. I wouln't hurt to go towards the end of the month when the dealer is trying to meet sales goals and for future allotment of vehicles from Toyota. 2009 or 2010, it does not matter, you should get that price. Thanks to everyone fot this great information!!!!

I have been searching my local area for a 2009 that matches what I want with no luck. Cash for clunkers has really drained the supply.

Last question, have any of you had any luck offering an "out-the-door" offer? My dad believes wholeheartedly in this, but I don't know many people who have actually had sucess with this. With the example at the top of my post, with the MSRP at 28900, would asking for a $27500 out the door price be crazy or an insult?

Always make a low ball offer to start off with and then let them counter offer. If there are multiple dealers in your area, haggle a price with one dealer and then call another dealership and tell them you'll buy from them if they can do better on the price than the first dealer.

My mother is a ruthless car haggler and she uses these techniques (and quite a few more vicious tactics). She always gets a good deal on what she buys.

I dont bother with any of that. I just practially TELL them I will buy at invoice...no more. There are a few models that this approach will not work. Corvette is one. Probably the new camaro is another until the novelity wears off. Also, your high end vehicles... Lexus and such but Toyotas, nissian domestics ect., I am quite sure you can walk out at invoice. I have had customers ask invoice price and then negociate from there and a few were sucessful getting new vehicle at under invoice. Sucks for the salesperson but great for the buyer.

Try carsdirect free buying service. they will find a dealer who wants a customer. When I was looking at the 2009's last year. Sticker was $29k carsdirect was able to get it for $26k.

I would have pulled the trigger, but they just wouldn't give enough for my trade.

I just picked up 2010 Tacoma TRD w/ OFF ROAD package and with all the accessories possible and I end up spending 31,278 . I took a loan of 28,000 and traded in my old mustang.
